Leeds Set To table Offer For 24-Year-Old Defender

Leeds United are expected to make an offer for Palmeiras defender Joaquin Piquerez in the coming days, according to an update from journalist Diego Firmino.

Who is Joaquin Piquerez?

The 24-year-old is now an experienced player who has enjoyed a good career to date, winning nine caps for Uruguay and playing for Palmeiras since 2021, having arrived from Penarol.

Piquerez has made 101 appearances for his current club, generally operating as a left-back but also at wing-back, scoring five goals and registering nine assists in that time. He also assisted 11 times in 53 outings for Penarol, outlining the attacking quality that he can provide from deep.

It could be that Leeds are looking to bring in a new left-back following the form of the hugely disappointing Junior Firpo, who failed to live up to expectations after arriving from Barcelona. That area now looks hugely lacking in quality, and if the Whites are to be among the promotion favourites in 2023/24, such positions need to be filled sufficiently.

Piquerez looks like a primary target for Leeds, following a significant update that has emerged regarding his future as they look to get a deal over the line in swift fashion.

Could Leeds sign Joaquin Piquerez?

Daniel Farke

According to Firmino on Twitter [via Sport Witness], Leeds are set to bid for Piquerez in the very near future, with a transfer having the potential to develop in a matter of days:

"Since I only talk about exits really, Leeds United interested in Piquerez. If not, proposals should arrive in the next few days. Whether it will come out or not, I don't know, it's another 500. Let's wait."

Piquerez may not necessarily be a household name to many Leeds supporters, but he is someone who could be a really shrewd signing as they look to bounce straight back in 2023/24 and sealing promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

The fact that he has won nine caps for a Uruguay side featuring so much talent from Luis Suarez to Fede Valverde says a lot about his quality, and the Whites could arguably be signing someone who is far too good to be playing in the second tier of English football.

At 24, Piquerez is still relatively young, making him a long-term acquisition for Leeds, and while his contract doesn't expire until the end of 2025, he shouldn't cost too much, and more funds should be available following 49ers Enterprises' takeover at Elland Road.

It is essential that an upgrade on Firpo comes in, avoiding another transfer error and ensuring someone consistent arrives, and Piquerez's experience to date suggests that he could make an ideal signing.

There is the risk that he has never tested himself in European football, and therefore could find it difficult to adjust to the pace and power of the English game, but if Daniel Farke sees him as a strong option to come in at left-back, the Leeds manager has to be trusted in the transfer market, bringing in the players he wants in the process.

Tottenham: Spurs Hold Talks For "Game-Changer" Signing

Tottenham Hotspur have held talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer, according to reports.

Who will Spurs sign?

Spurs are actively seeking defensive reinforcements, among other positions in the squad, after already sealing agreements for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Vicario, who comes in as a long-term replacement for veteran number one Hugo Lloris, was soon followed by Maddison with the England international joining in a deal from Leicester City.

Solomon, after enjoying a brilliant run of form on loan at Fulham last campaign, attracted Spurs' interest as manager Ange Postecoglou seemingly green-lit the Israel international's signing.

It's also believed that Blackburn Rovers starlet Ashley Phillips is heading to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as chairman Daniel Levy agrees a £3 million fee for the promising 18-year-old.

However, the north Londoners won't be done with the aforementioned trio, as reliable reports suggest that they're still chasing the likes of Gallagher and a new star defender.

Even though Phillips is on his way to Spurs, the likes of Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven and Juventus star Gleison Bremer remain linked with a move.

Gallagher, whose future at Chelsea is apparently up in the air, could end up making that switch across the English capital if all goes to plan – as The Guardian and journalist Jacob Steinberg reveal.

According to his information, as Steinberg also writes on Twitter, there's a "good chance" he leaves Stamford Bridge this summer and Tottenham are lurking.

It is claimed in his actual written piece that they have held talks over a move for the England international, but if they wish to sign him, Spurs face competition from bitter London rivals West Ham.

Chelsea are in the process of a major rebuild and Gallagher is one member of Mauricio Pochettino's squad who could end up departing.

How good is Conor Gallagher?

The 23-year-old made 35 league appearances for Chelsea last season under both Graham Potter and former interim boss Frank Lampard.

However, his starts were limited and around half of those minutes came from the bench, so Gallagher is hardly a key first eleven player at the Bridge.

That being said, his productive spell on loan at Crystal Palace over the 2021/2022 season is a real indicator of his quality, with Gallagher racking up eight top flight goals and three assists that year (WhoScored).

The midfielder also ranked as their best-performing player by average match rating, and pundit Jermaine Jenas believes he can be a "game-changer" on his day.

“I think he is a game-changer aswell Conor Gallagher," said Jenas to Match of The Day (via The Sun).

"He’s the type of player that you bring on and he has an impact on the game. He presses, gets himself in the box and creates chances.

"He presses, gets himself in the box and creates chances. Also, he’s won a World Cup. He was part of the U17 World Cup-winning side so he understands tournament football and I’m pleased for Conor.”

Indeed, Gallagher could well be a brilliant addition to Postecoglou's squad if they can get a deal done.

Man United Willing To Move For 18 y/o Striker

Manchester United appear to be interested in signing Athletico Paranaense forward Vitor Roque this summer.

Are Man United signing a striker?

The Red Devils and Erik ten Hag have made a start on their summer business by securing a £60m move for Mason Mount from Chelsea.

The midfielder signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford and will wear the number seven shirt in Manchester, with attention now turning to a new goalkeeper and striker.

Ten Hag reportedly has a £120m transfer kitty before player sales, and with half of that spent on Mount, departures may be needed over the coming weeks.

Andre Onana from Inter Milan appears to be the top target in goal following David de Gea’s departure, with the Serie A side asking for £45m. Brighton's Robert Sanchez, Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow and Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp are also options, and there are a number of targets in attack.

A big £50m offer is reportedly ready to sign Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani another target in the final third.

It looks as if Roque is also on the radar, though, with Anthony Martial up for sale at Old Trafford and Wout Weghorst’s loan spell coming to an end.

Sport Witness relayed an update from Mundo Deportivo regarding Roque in the last 48 hours. Barcelona previously agreed to a €50m deal to sign the forward – €30m plus €20m in bonuses – however, relative documents are yet to be signed to seal a transfer.

As a result, it is believed that Man United, alongside Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, are willing to finalise a deal for the striker and ‘do not stop calling’ over a potential move in a transfer twist.

Athletico Paranaense are starting to lose patience with Barcelona, and we could see further developments in the coming days on Roque, with the Red Devils, Spurs and PSG all willing to triple the forward’s salary.

Who is Vitor Roque?

Roque is 18 years of age and made the move to Athletico Paranaense from Cruzeiro last year in a deal worth €4.7m. Since then, his Transfermarkt valuation has rocketed to a career-high €18m and the forward has scored 22 goals in 66 games for his current employers.

Football Scout Jacek Kulig has heaped praise on the youngster, hailing him as a "top talent" due to his fantastic goal return last season, while he has also described him as "unstoppable."

Ten Hag’s central attacking options are short at this moment in time, and he could actually have no centre-forward to choose from if Martial moves on. Therefore, bringing in someone like Roque alongside an older forward such as Hojlund or Kolo Muani could be a wise move.

However, Barcelona seemingly have a €50m agreement in place for the teenager, and with United already halfway through their budget, they could see a move as too costly at this moment in time. That could change should they bring in up to £100m in sales with 13 players possibly on the move, so it could be one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.

Arsenal Must Launch Move For "Underrated" £39m Gem

Arsenal just fell short in the hunt for the Premier League title last term, finishing five points behind Manchester City after a poor final few fixtures.

There was nothing wrong with their attacking qualities, as they managed to score 88 league goals, and they even had the joint second best defensive record in the division, however, the Gunners conspired to concede 18 goals during the final 11 fixtures, which saw the momentum shift in favour of City.

It was no coincidence that William Saliba was missing for these games having suffered an injury against Sporting CP in the Europa League and Mikel Arteta had to utilise Rob Holding at centre-back.

The defender must surely be ditched this summer as he ranked in a lowly 17th position in the squad for average rating via Sofascore while also ranking 16th for tackles per game and 15th for interceptions per game, clearly suggesting he isn’t of the required standard if the club want to win the title next term.

With this in mind, the Gunners have been linked with a move for Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio according to Spanish news outlet AS (via Football 365) and Arteta may just be able to secure a bargain, with the centre-back available for a fee of around €45m (£39m) as per the report.

Could Arsenal sign Goncalo Inacio this summer?

A move is within the realms of possibilities, however the North Londoners face competition for the 21-year-old alongside Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Making him the focus of their attention could be a shrewd move by Arsenal, especially judging by his statistics over the previous year, with his passing ability and forward-thinking mentality having the potential to suit Arteta.

Across the next eight competitions on the continent, Inacio ranks in the top 4% for progressive passes per 90 (9.04), progressive carries per 90 (1.9), passes attempted per 90 (88.63) and successful take-ons per 90 (0.65), demonstrating that he can bring the ball out from the back with ease and is always keen on starting attacks from his own half, something which Arteta looks for in his defenders.

goncalo-inacio-liverpool-transfer-premier-league

In contrast, Holding doesn’t even rank in the top 10% across Europe’s big five leagues for any of these metrics, suggesting that Inacio would be a major upgrade on the Englishman and improve their strength in depth.

The 6 foot 1 starlet was even described as being “underrated” by journalist Zach Lowy a couple of years ago, but with his numbers over the previous year ranking him highly across a range of metrics, Arteta would certainly render this praise obsolete.

Chelsea: Pochettino plots £100m bid for star target at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have been linked with a Real Madrid superstar in an attempt to strengthen in the middle of the park following N'Golo Kante’s departure to the Saudi Pro League.

Incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly 'obsessed' with midfielder Fede Valverde and are said to have made an initial bid of €120m (£100m) plus €20m (£17m) in add-ons for the Uruguay international.

Chelsea transfer news – Fede Valderde

Chelsea are they look to revolutionise their midfield as they attempt to bounce back after a terrible Premier League campaign saw the blues finish in the bottom half of the table.

Following Kante’s departure, Chelsea look set to sell midfielders Mateo Kovacic to champions Manchester City and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Champions League semi-finalists AC Milan.

Chelsea also declined to make the loan of Denis Zakaria from Juventus a permanent transfer.

The London club has made an offer north of £100m for Real Madrid’s star midfielder Fede Valverde, per DefensaCentral in Spain.

Should Chelsea sign Fede Valverde?

Valverde has been crucial to Real Madrid in recent years, this includes an assist for Vinicius Jr’s Champions League final-winning goal against Liverpool last season.

The 24-year-old machine joined Los Blancos' academy in 2016 from Uruguayan club Penarol for a mere £4.5m, and it now worth an estimated £85m according to Transfermarkt.

As a versatile midfielder who can also play on the right wing, Valverde contributed seven goals and four assists to Real’s league campaign this season.

Is Fede Valverde as good as Jude Bellingham?

Chelsea title-winner Joe Cole once spoke glowingly of the 6-foot midfielder, even comparing the Urguaguay international to English superstar Jude Bellingham.

“He’s been able to bide his time and learn from the likes of Casemiro, Kroos and Modric,” the former Blues player said following Real’s 5-1 demolition of SPFL champions Celtic in this season's Champions League.

“He’s at the top of the young players alongside Jude Bellingham, and he’s about to become the best.

“We talk a lot about Bellingham in England, but this kid is as good as he is.”

Bellingham looks set to snub offers in England to join Los Blancos, and it remains to be seen if the former Birmingham City midfielder’s arrival will displace Valverde from the starting XI.

Given Toni Kroos, 33, and Luka Modric, 37, are nearing the end of their careers it feels more likely that Bellingham will replace one of those two real legends as opposed to replacing Valverde.

But that shouldn't stop Todd Boehly and co from making an attempt for his signature.

Burnley: Kompany eyeing move to bring "fantastic" target to Turf Moor

According to Lancs Live, Burnley are interested in making a move for Leeds United full-back Cody Drameh this summer.

Who is Cody Drameh?

Spending last season on loan at Luton Town, Drameh played a key part in Rob Edwards' side as they defeated Coventry City in the Championship play-off final to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Drameh made 16 appearances in the Championship after completing the loan move to Kenilworth Road in January.

The young full-back started the play-off final, as the Hatters battled to eventually defeat Coventry on penalties. After a frustrating first half of the campaign with little game time at Elland Road, Drameh ended on a high at Wembley.

Foreseeing the success that Drameh would have at Luton after the deal was completed, Edwards told Luton Today:

“There was not much doubt really, all the attributes were there.

“A really good mentality, technically he’s a really good footballer and physically fantastic as well.

"They’re pretty good attributes to have, especially in this modern game now, so there wasn’t too much doubt from my point of view.”

Will Burnley sign Cody Drameh?

Cody Drameh enjoys life away from Leeds United with Luton Town in the Championship.

As reported by Lancs Live, Drameh is on the list of Vincent Kompany's Burnley targets this summer.

The Clarets boss may not make the deal his highest priority, however, given the form of right-back Connor Robers throughout a successful title-winning campaign last season. With that, Roberts would likely enter the season as first choice.

But how do Drameh and Roberts compare?

As per FBref, whilst Drameh made more interceptions per-90 last season, Roberts outperformed his younger counterpart in progressive passes, goals and assists per-90.

Defensively, however, Drameh stands out, having made more interceptions as mentioned plus more blocks, and tackles than Roberts. Although it must be said, this could partly be down to Burnley's possession-based playing style, rather than Roberts' defensive capability.

So, if Drameh did make the move to Burnley, he would likely go in as a deputy, rather than a starter.

The Leeds gem is not short on options, though, with Luton Town interested in turning their loan move permanent this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The two interested parties leaves Drameh with a big decision to make this summer, added onto the fact that he could yet opt to stay at Leeds for next season.

Drameh's current Leeds contract expires this time next year, which will allow the 21-year-old to leave on a free deal.

This means that, if the Yorkshire club want to cash in, it must be soon.

Chelsea keen on ‘terrific’ £80m machine to replace Kante

N’Golo Kante’s sudden departure from Stamford Bridge means Chelsea now have to act.

The World Cup winner had been close to an agreement to extend his stay in the English capital, but a €100m (£86m) a season deal with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad suddenly looks set to end his fruitful career in Europe.

His last year at the Blues was ravaged by injury, and he only made nine appearances in all competitions – this prolonged absence was one of the reasons for Chelsea’s spectacular decline into the bottom half of the table.

The 32-year-old must be replaced and Moises Caicedo is a player who can adopt a similar role.

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea?

Having missed out on the signature of CP Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte, the West Londoners are expected to accelerate their efforts to tempt Caicedo to join.

Whilst it seemed that Chelsea were prioritising a deal for the Uruguayan, it’s been revealed that the 2021 Champions League winners have been equally interested in the Brighton star for around £80m.

This has been reaffirmed by reputable journalist Dean Jones, who told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think it’s even a case of getting back of the Caicedo trail, they’ve already been on it. The whole time the Ugarte thing has been going on, Caicedo is still the one I’ve been hearing more about. I’ve always expected that Chelsea would go for Caicedo.”

Can Caicedo replicate Kante’s exploits at Chelsea?

Across seven years at Chelsea, the former Leicester City star notched 269 appearances, 29 goal involvements, and six different trophies, winning everything available aside from the Carabao Cup.

The 53-cap international is renowned for his energetic and insufferable ability to break up opposition attacks and protect his backline.

Due to his unbelievable consistency, Cesc Fabregas has labelled Kante as “world-class”, a sentiment that was echoed by Ally McCoist, who described the player as “absolutely magic.”

N'Golo Kante for Chelsea

The beautiful chapter of Kante’s tremendous story at Chelsea has rightfully ended, forging the pathway for Caicedo to possibly repeat the heroics of his positional peer.

Within his age bracket, the youngster has brilliantly excelled as the £60k-per-week star has won possession in the midfield third the most times (142) of any U21 player this season.

Across the continent, the 30-cap international has also emerged as a formidable asset, ranking within the top 26% in Europe’s top five leagues among other midfielders for progressive passes, as well as the highest 11% for interceptions per 90, according to FBref.

So far in his short, but equally dazzling career, Caicedo has demonstrated himself to be a phenomenal pivot with an uncoachable quality to read the game and sniff out danger.

South American Football expert Tim Vickery has described the Ecuadorian as “terrific” and whilst it would be foolish to suggest he can instantly fill Kante’s void if he continues on his currently frightening trajectory, he could be unstoppable.
