Todas sob o comando do arquirrival do Vozão, o Fortaleza.

Clement must ditch Rangers’ "terrible signing" for "bright" 5 foot 9 dynamo

Glasgow Rangers kept their second consecutive clean sheet and came away from Prague with an unlikely point after swatting away an onslaught during their Europa League clash on Thursday evening.

Philippe Clement saw his side escape with a 0-0 draw against Sparta Prague and while the first half was rather underwhelming, the Gers came into the match during the second half and were unlucky to not emerge with all three points following some positive substitutions.

With a tie against Hearts to come this afternoon, the Belgian may look to rotate some of his squad where possible and this should mean dropping Cyriel Dessers to the bench.

Cyriel Dessers struggled against Sparta Prague

The striker has scored just four goals across 17 matches for the Light Blues and against the Czech side, he looked out of sorts.

Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers.

The Nigerian international somehow managed to remain on the pitch for 74 minutes and, during that time, he took just 21 touches, completed only six passes, and failed to take a single shot, offering very little to the team whilst leading the line.

His performance came under scrutiny from Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, who dubbed the 28-year-old as a “terrible signing” while also saying that “he gives his team no chance” and it is time that he made way for another summer signing today – Brazilian attacker Danilo.

Danilo nearly scored the winner against Sparta Prague

The 5 foot 9 forward has yet to make his mark at the club and has missed a number of games after he fractured his cheekbone against St Johnstone last month.

Before then, he had made just four starts for the Light Blues while scoring three goals, and the Brazilian has looked like a menacing threat in the final third in his short time at Ibrox so far.

Clement will be hoping to count on the player in the next few weeks, and he could have changed the outcome of the match in midweek, impressing as a substitute.

Rangers striker Danilo.

Across just 16 minutes of action, Danilo had two shots – with one crashing off the crossbar – while also winning one ground duel and making one tackle, yet it was his impact that gave the Gers impetus in the final minutes.

With Dessers failing to contribute with any meaningful action during his spell on the pitch, the dynamic changed the moment the former Feyenoord striker replaced him and this could be vital heading into the next few weeks.

Clement hailed him following the match, saying he had “looked bright” but also claiming that “we need to focus on making him stronger” and the closer he returns to full fitness, the better Rangers will be that’s for sure.

The signing of Dessers is looking more and more strange as time goes on as he fails to offer any substantial attacking threat in the final third.

It will be interesting to see what kind of future he has under the Belgian manager, but for the match this afternoon, Danilo simply has to be unleashed from the first whistle.

If he is, the Gers could secure yet another league victory and continue their momentum under Clement, and the ex-Eredivisie marksman could get Ibrox rocking with a strong performance through the middle of the pitch.

Warne on old rift with Waugh: 'Felt totally let down when he dropped me'

In detailing the breakdown in their relationship from 1999, the legspinner also tagged his former captain “the most selfish player” he ever played with

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Oct-2018Shane Warne has reheated his old feud with Steve Waugh by revealing in a new book that he felt “totally let down” by Australia’s then captain when dropped from the playing XI in the fourth Test against West Indies in 1999. He also described his former Australia captain as “the most selfish player I ever played with, and was only worried about averaging 50”.Heading to the Caribbean, Waugh had just been appointed Test captain with Warne as vice-captain, and Australia had started the series by bowling out West Indies for 51 to win the first Test by 312 runs. However, Brian Lara made two of the finest centuries of his career, 213 in the second Test and 153 not out in the third, as West Indies stormed back. The home side were leading 2-1 heading into the final Test in Antigua, and Warne’s returns in the first three Tests were a poor two wickets at 134.00.’Baggy green worship made me want to puke’ – Warne

“All that worship of the baggy green – some of the guys went with it, like Lang [Justin Langer], Haydos [Matthew Hayden] and Gilly [Adam Gilchrist], but it wasn’t for me,” Warne wrote. “They loved it but, to be honest, they made me want to puke with it half the time. I mean, wearing it at Wimbledon! Who wears a green cricket cap to Wimbledon? It was just embarrassing! Mark Waugh felt the same. I don’t need a baggy green to prove what playing for Australia means to me or to the people who watch us.”

In an extract from his book published in , Warne describes the selection meeting before the final Test.”I was vice-captain and bowling pretty ordinary and Tugga [Waugh] opened the selection meeting between the two of us and Geoff Marsh, the coach, by saying, ‘Warney, I don’t think you should play this next Test.'”Silence. ‘Er, right,’ I said. ‘Why?’ ‘I don’t think you’re bowling very well, mate.’ ‘Yes… fair call,’ I admitted. ‘My shoulder [after surgery] is taking longer than I thought but it’s close now. The feel is slowly coming back and then the rhythm will come, mate. I’m not worried.'”Marsh agreed with Warne but Waugh stuck to his guns, which led to an impasse. Allan Border, a selector at the time who was was off duty but there in Antigua, was asked for his views. Warne writes that Border supported him, saying: “I back Warney every time. The situation is made for him. Anyway, we owe him. Think of what he’s done for Australian cricket. We need to show faith.”However, Warne wrote that Waugh once again asserted his authority as captain: “No, I appreciate your thoughts, AB, but Warney’s not playing. I’m going with my gut here. Sorry, guys.”Australia won the Test to square the series, but Warne felt let down. “Disappointed is not a strong enough word. When the crunch came Tugga didn’t support me, and I felt so totally let down by someone who I had supported big time and was also a good friend,” Warne wrote, adding that he didn’t handle his axing from the team that well. “I conducted myself badly, to be honest. I wasn’t that supportive of the team, which I regret.”Looking back, this was probably a combination of the shoulder issue still eating away at me and the pure anger bubbling inside at Steve’s lack of trust. During the first three Tests, at various times some of the bowlers came to me, grumbling about Tugga’s captaincy and field placements and stuff. I said I was backing him to the hilt and if they had a problem with the captain they should go see him direct. Perhaps because of this, I was deeply disappointed that he didn’t back me in return.”Getty ImagesImmediately after the West Indies tour, Australia went to England for the 1999 World Cup, where, after starting slowly, they stormed to the title with both Waugh and Warne playing key roles. However, later in the year, when Australia went to Sri Lanka, Warne writes of another altercation before the second Test. In the first match, Waugh had collided with Jason Gillespie on the field, leaving both men with nasty injuries. However, Waugh was adamant he would play in the second Test, while Warne held the opposite view. “I was being a d******* and looking for a bit of revenge. He hadn’t backed me and now I wasn’t going to back him,” writes Warne of the argument, which he eventually lost when Marsh sided with Waugh.Warne says he “never found it easy” with Waugh after the West Indies and Sri Lanka tours, even though they had started off as good friends, with Waugh present at Warne’s wedding and even almost convincing the legspinner to play club cricket for Bankstown in Sydney, with a view to breaking into the New South Wales team.”He became a completely different person when he took over as captain… It wasn’t that he dropped me. I have no issue about being dropped if I’m not performing; if you don’t perform, out you go. But there was more to it than my performances – I think it was jealousy. He started to niggle away, telling me to look at my diet and spend more time on deciding what sort of person I wanted to be in my life, how to conduct myself – that sort of stuff. I said, ‘Mate – worry about yourself.'”

Bellingham received a red card for dissent after his last-minute winner against Valencia was chalked off as the final whistle had already been blown earlier this month. Ancelotti told reporters: "Bellingham's sanction? We have appealed because we think the sanction is exaggerated. It was not an insult, the minutes say it. We think that the sanction is not correct."

MS Dhoni, and managing chaos

By inverting his middle-order, the CSK captain created confusion. A touch of madness, perhaps, but as always there was a method to Dhoni’s madness

Deivarayan Muthu in Pune21-May-20184:37

Agarkar: Bizarre changes from CSK in batting line-up

At a recent promotional event, MS Dhoni was asked: “[Erwin] Rommel, the legendary German general, said no plan survives contact. How do you relate that to cricket?””After the first ball is bowled, it’s only chaos,” Dhoni replied. “What you are trying to do is you’re trying to manage the chaos. It’s not like a script that happens. My coach Stephen Fleming often comes and does that. He says ‘mate, Lungi [Ngidi] can bowl the first over, then somebody else second’ and so on. Yes, I know who are the bowlers and they will bowl at some point of time. But it does not work like that. It’s about adaptability.”T20 cricket is all about managing chaos. Mohit Sharma had Chennai Super Kings’ gun batsman Ambati Rayudu nicking off for 1 in the last league match of IPL 2018. At the other end, Ankit Rajpoot was hooping the ball around on a well-grassed Pune pitch that might have reminded him of his stint as a net bowler in South Africa earlier this year. He teased Faf du Plessis’ outside edge before finding it in his third over. He then bowled Sam Billings with a perfectly pitched ball that jagged away past the outside edge. CSK were 27 for 3 in the fifth over in pursuit of 154.Rajpoot might have expected Dhoni or Dwayne Bravo to walk out and face the hat-trick ball. Instead, Harbhajan Singh was promoted to No. 5. He averted the hat-trick but could have been out next ball had Aaron Finch not dived to his left at second slip and got in the way of a straightforward catch for Chris Gayle at first slip. In the next over, Harbhajan nearly ran himself out. Then came the devil-may-care slash to the point boundary. Kings XI needed to limit CSK to 100 or less to sneak into the playoffs. So, it made sense for Ashwin to bowl Rajpoot out in a bid to make further inroads into the CSK batting line-up.Harbhajan, however, kept swinging for the hills against Rajpoot and connected with a length ball that he biffed over extra cover. He saw out Rajpoot’s spell and left Kings XI twitching. He ultimately fell lbw attempting a big slog-sweep against an offbreak from R Ashwin. CSK were now 58 for 4 and the asking rate was ballooning towards 10. The packed Sunday crowd at the MCA Stadium was waiting for Dhoni to come out and prick it. Instead, Deepak Chahar was promoted to No. 6.BCCICSK’s coach Fleming had endorsed Chahar’s batting skills earlier in the tournament, but this was a tough chase on a tough pitch. Chahar and Suresh Raina, however, quietly tapped the ball into the gaps and narrowed the equation to 73 off 36 balls. In the next over, Chahar lined up Ashwin and hit him for three boundaries, including a languid loft over long-off. It had his former Rajasthan captain and former Rising Pune Supergiant assistant coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar tweeting: “Deepak Chahar is not a slogger like most think. He is a talented batsman capable of surprising the best of the bowlers in the #ipl18.”And surprise he did with 39 off 20 balls at a strike rate of 195 and – as per ESPNcricinfo’s new T20 metrics – a Smart Strike Rate of 274.36 on a pitch where even some of the frontline batsmen struggled.”I can’t say it was our plan [bowling to a pinch-hitter],” Kings XI coach Brad Hodge said at the post-match press conference. “MS and his side were in a position to pull guys up [the order] and have confidence in them. MS does these sorts of courageous stuff and that’s why he’s a champion and that’s why they are a champion team.”We look to emulate such things and we know we’re short on experience compared to Chennai Super Kings but hopefully in the coming years, whatever group comes together, we will learn those traits and hopefully have the courage to have trust in them to get the job done.”Dhoni, on his part, explained that CSK had sent in the two pinch-hitters to throw the Kings XI bowlers off their lines and lengths. “Sending in Bhajji [Harbhajan] and Chahar creates a bit of chaos,” Dhoni told host broadcaster Star Sports. “The bowlers all of a sudden bowl yorkers, offcutters, and bouncers. When [top-order] batsmen are batting, they stick to a good line and length, but against Bhajji and Chahar, they lose their line and lengths instead of sticking to the plan. Plus Bhajji and Chahar could come in handy during the playoffs.”When Chahar holed out at the start of the 17th over, CSK needed 40 off 23 balls. Raina brought up his fourth fifty of the season and then Dhoni provided a blockbuster finish with a hooked six. Chaos managed. Top-two finish in the league phase confirmed. Over to the Pune-Mumbai expressway for Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on May 22.

Elgar, Amla taught us a lesson – Lehmann

Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann has pointed to the pragmatic example set by Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla as a key lesson for the touring batsmen after the Port Elizabeth Test, after they weathered the sharpest blows of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins to ease the path that AB de Villiers so artfully exploited.Elgar and Amla soaked up 46.2 overs in a partnership of 88 that made for some absorbing if slow-going Test match cricket, and most importantly they were able to keep out the Australian “big three” pacemen during extended periods of reverse swing. While several quick wickets were lost after tea on day two, the investment put in by the top order – however ugly it looked – proved invaluable when de Villiers began to play with far more freedom alongside the tail.In assessing where the Australians went wrong at St George’s Park, Lehmann reckoned that sort of stoic top-order batting had been required, for while David Warner and Cameron Bancroft put on 98 for the first wicket, the highest stand of the match, there was little behind them in terms of partnerships that could tire out South Africa’s attack.”Certainly I thought Elgar and Amla showed our blokes a little bit how to get through that and as we know when your bowlers are starting to bowl 25 overs an innings it is starting to get to be tough work,” Lehmann said. “You make your runs at the back end against quality attacks and that’s what we’ve got to get better at.”Not enough runs in the first innings as you saw, at 0 for 98 I thought we were going really well, and then that either-side period of tea we lost 4 for 9 and 8 for 80 in that, and then 10-11 did really well to get us to 243, but still it was 50-75 runs short. If we have those runs … and we’re probably short in the second innings to be fair, short another 50 there. Batting’s got to improve as we know.”I don’t think we bowled as well to [de Villiers] as we could’ve, that’s an area we can certainly improve on, but in general I think our bowling was first-rate again. If we had the extra 100 runs it would’ve been a rip-snorter of a Test match. From our point of view to AB we’ve got to bowl better to him, he’s a class player.”Dean Elgar plays on the off side•Getty Images

While Warner and Bancroft had given Australia the ideal start, a lack of centuries in either of the first two Tests – South Africa have made two, from de Villiers and Aiden Markram – has hurt. Lehmann pointed to both Bancroft and Usman Khawaja as players who could have gone on to more substantial innings. He also said the captain Steven Smith was unhappy with his output, and would look to atone at Newlands.”That was good, they both looked good,” Lehmann said. “You’d love them to go on, that’s the difference at the moment, AB went on, got 140 and that hurts you in this sort of format when the series is going to be so tight, runs are going to be at a premium against two quality bowling attacks. We need those guys to go on once they get in.”There’s a few good players in the series full stop, not just those two, de Villiers and Smith. He’s disappointed with his output, he sets his standards so high, so we expect him to come back strong in the last two Test matches and have a real impact.”A groin strain to Mitchell Marsh is another of Australia’s concerns ahead of the third Test in Cape Town, and Lehmann said it would be a case of assessing his fitness in the 10-day break between Tests before deciding whether a replacement player – possible Marcus Stoinis – would be required to make the trip across the Indian Ocean.”Reasonably confident but we’ll see over the next couple of days, medical staff will have a look at him and assess him and then make a call from there. We’re hopeful for the next Test,” Lehmann said. “[A replacement] sort of depends on what we want and what we could get in Cape Town. We’ll have to sum that up the next couple of days, once we get there and have a look.”He’s close to made our most runs, we haven’t had a lot of runs in the series so far, but he’s looking as good as anyone at the moment. [With the] ball, he was going to be important, and he was important for us with those couple wickets late on day two, it would’ve been nice to pick up a few more and restrict them by 30 or 40.”We’ve got a break now, lucky enough to have a bit of downtime for the lads over three or four days and then we get into our prep for Cape Town. They’ve had a long summer, we’ve had a long summer, but you’ve seen how competitive it is out there. Both teams will be fine to go next Test.”As for the loss of Kagiso Rabada from the series due to a two-match suspension, Lehmann said he would prefer to see the best players on the park, but added that it wouldn’t matter much if the Australians did not improve their own batting. “It’s never good seeing fantastic bowlers out of series,” he said. “They’re going to miss him there’s no doubt about it, but they’ve got some pretty good bowlers that are back-ups, so for us it doesn’t matter who plays, we’ve got to play and bat better than first two Test matches.”

Leeds United Could Sign Free Agent Tanguy Coulibaly

It looked like Leeds United were well on their way to kickstarting their season after defeating Ipswich Town for their first Championship win of the season. A 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday has since dashed those hopes, however, leaving those at Elland Road frustrated once more.

The draw has only added to the woes in front of goal of the Yorkshire club, who ended the summer transfer window by bidding farwell to one of their star men in the form of Luis Sinisterra, with the winger completing a loan move to Premier League side Bournemouth.

They could however replace the winger in what would be a surprising move, given that the transfer window is now closed. Alas, the free agent market is still available, and reports suggest that Leeds could find themselves a solution.

What's the latest Leeds United transfer news?

Whilst Leeds did lose the likes of Tyler Adams and Sinisterra to Bournemouth in the transfer window, the arrival of Joel Piroe at least gave the Yorkshire club a positive to keep hold of. Now, they must ensure that he has the service needed to take his goalscoring talent to Elland Road, having scored 19 goals for Swansea City in the Championship last season.

Keeping hold of Wilfried Gnonto may go a long way in giving Piroe the platform to perform, but the Yorkshire club are still in need of one more winger. And that's where Tanguy Coulibaly could come in.

According to Football League World, Leeds could potentially swoop in to sign the Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate, with the winger currently without a club following the expiration of his Stuttgart contract at the end of last season.

Coulibaly, still only 22-years-old, could realise the potential that he showed signs of when originally coming through the ranks at PSG as a youngster.

Should Leeds United sign Tanguy Coulibaly?

With no transfer involved, and in need of a winger either way, Leeds would be conducting smart business by signing Coulibaly. The 22-year-old has plenty of time to develop into a top player, and if Daniel Farke can oversee that improvement this season, then the former Norwich City boss could have himself an unexpected game-changers.

Last season was a frustrating one for Coulibaly, admittedly, with the Frenchman missing a total of ten games through injury. Meanwhile, when he was available, the winger didn't start a single Bundesliga game for Stuttgart.

In many ways, however, Coulibaly's lack of starts makes his four goals scored all the more impressive – it could be argued that this is a player who just needs a more consistent opportunity to impress, something that Leeds could provide.

In just 326 minutes in the Bundeliga – the equivalent of just over three games – the former PSG man made an impressive 14 progressive carries, 12 progressive passes, and completed 11 successful take-ons, as per FBref. With that said, you are once again left wondering just how impactful his numbers could have been if he was handed more game-time.

As the season progresses, and Coulibaly remains without a club, it will certainly be interesting to see if Leeds decide to welcome the Frenchman to Elland Road.
