Le Tissier admits he would pick Kane over Ronaldo

Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has admitted that he would select Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane ahead of Real Madrid hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Southampton legend based his decision on current form, as Kane seems to be unstoppable in front of goal.

In fact, the 24-year-old has scored 37 goals in all competitions this season, while Ronaldo is 12 behind with 25 to his name.

The Portugal captain is widely regarded as one of the world’s best, and it is difficult to argue given that he has won five league titles and three Champions League crowns.

Kane is yet to win any silverware with Tottenham, but over the last few years he has been the driving force in the club’s Premier League campaigns.

The North London outfit finished third and then second in the past two seasons, and even though they are likely to be fighting for a top-four finish this season, Le Tissier thinks that on current form, Kane is better than Ronaldo.

While speaking to Sky Sports News, the retired footballer said:

“Right now, on this season’s form, I would take Harry Kane. Ronaldo has done it over a longer period of time and there is many a season you would pick Cristiano over him. But this season, Harry has stepped it up another level. He has been brilliant for the last three or four years but this season he has taken it up a notch.”

Aston Villa fans hail Grealish following Sunderland match

Aston Villa attacker Jack Grealish made his return from a calf injury in his team’s Championship clash with struggling Sunderland on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old had missed games against Fulham, Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday with the problem, but was back on the field against Sunderland as he appeared a second-half substitute in his team’s 3-0 victory at the Stadium of Light.

Grealish, who has one goal and six assists in all competitions this season, is now in line to start for Villa against Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park this weekend.

Some of Grealish’s off-the-field conduct has not been the best, but there is no doubting that the attacker has incredible ability on the football pitch.

Villa fans are hopeful that Grealish’s injury problems are now behind him, and want to see the attacker, who is valued at £4.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, in the starting XI against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Gold insists that he will not walk away from West Ham United

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold will be well aware of the unhappiness among the fans.

If he is not subjected to angry posts on social media, the businessman is at the centre of furious chants in the terraces.

On Saturday, during the team’s 3-0 defeat to Burnley, the London Stadium was a cauldron of hate as three fans made their way onto the pitch to protest.

Club captain Mark Noble took matters into his own hands by throwing one of the pitch invaders to the ground.

The club have since released a statement confirming that they have launched an investigation into the incidents and appropriate action will be taken.

A large marjoity of the anger from supporters is related to the club’s decision to leave Upton Park and move to the Olympic ground.

Many supporters feel that the state-of-the-art stadium lacks the atmosphere of their old home.

Despite the ongoing unrest, Gold has spoken exclusively to Claret and Hugh, insisting that he will not be going anywhere.

“The vast majority are decent people whatever they may feel about us. We were mortified when we had to leave the box – it’s unreal to hear these people saying we have stolen money and that we are liars and cheats. It’s all so wrong. It’s not as though they are pointing at a specific issue – they are all generalisations and simply not true.

“I have no objection whatsoever to those who don’t like the way we run the club. Many of them are very decent people who argue their case passionately and intelligently – that’s fine. But I will never be driven away from anything by the behaviour I saw today. It won’t happen because of all the decent fans out there.”

Newcastle confirm Ritchie withdrawal

Newcastle United have revealed that Matt Ritchie has pulled out of the Scotland squad ahead of their international friendly against Hungary on Tuesday night.

Ritchie played 87 minutes of Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica on Friday, and had been in line to feature in Alex McLeish’s second game back in charge of the national team.

However, a statement from Newcastle on Monday revealed that Ritchie had withdrawn Scotland duty, and would return to his Premier League club to be assessed.

It is currently unclear whether the attacker will be fit to face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Ritchie has scored twice and registered six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Magpies during the 2017-18 campaign.

Newcastle, who could have Islam Slimani available this weekend, will enter the clash with Huddersfield having lost just one of their last six league fixtures, with that run of form leaving them in 13th position in the table.

Liverpool fans react to derby draw in Salah’s absence

Mo Salah limped out of Liverpool’s 3-0 thrashing of Manchester City at Anfield on Wednesday night and was not risked by Jurgen Klopp for the Merseyside derby visit to Goodison Park.

The German made five changes to preserve his charges ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium for the return leg on Tuesday night and that meant that his top scorer wasn’t even in the squad.

The end result was an uninspiring performance and a 0-0 draw, but even the point could have evaporated late on when Cenk Tosun, Seamus Coleman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all spurned chances to net a late winner.

Klopp may argue that escaping the match without any further injuries and being able to give some of his elite players a rest represents a good afternoon’s work.

Yet, the derby is one of the most important games of the season to the fans and many of them were concerned about the lack of potency in the Reds’ attack without Salah.

We’ve picked out just a few concerned Liverpool fans…

West Ham fans were left pleasantly surprised by Hart’s Chelsea performance

West Ham United had watched scorelines go their way in the relegation fight before their trip to Chelsea which only added to the growing sense that they would be okay this season.

Southampton and Stoke both lost out to North London sides and they travelled to Stamford Bridge with the capacity to approach the game as something of a free hit.

If getting anything out of the trip to face London rivals Chelsea was a bonus then a point, garnered after enduring a lot of home pressure after a promising opening, was a welcome one in their battle against the drop.

Joe Hart’s inclusion did not necessarily please West Ham fans prior to kick off but the England international kept his side in the game at times and was the unexpected subject of praise from his own fans.

Substitute Javier Hernandez grabbed an equaliser late on but it was the England man who got his fair share of plaudits after arguably his best performance of the season…

Everton fans are loving it as Vlasic returns to the bench for Swansea game

Everton couldn’t manage a Merseyside derby win against a weakened Liverpool side last weekend and then had to watch on as their bitter rivals spent the week celebrated making the Champions League semi-finals.

To pile on the misery, the Toffees are stuck going nowhere fast under Sam Allardyce who should be using the dead rubbers towards the end of the season to work towards next season.

He isn’t, but is persisting with the same shape and largely the same players that have led to the malaise at Goodison Park and the natives are not impressed.

That means that the sight of promising young winger Nikola Vlasic on the substitutes bench for the trip to Swansea is enough to get them excited at this stage.

We’ve taken a closer look at the best of the reaction from the Toffees as the wideman moves closer to getting his chance to add some genuine width to this Everton side…

West Ham fans unhappy with Moyes comments

Well, there is just a bit of pressure on West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian to perform against Manchester City this weekend then.

Adrian will face the Premier League champions due to the fact that Joe Hart is ineligible to take on his parent club, and the Spaniard will be looking to produce a strong performance so that he can finish the season as West Ham’s number one.

Facing City is not exactly the easiest of tasks, and it does appear that head coach David Moyes has placed an unnecessary amount of pressure on Adrian with his comments on Friday afternoon.

It would be a huge surprise if West Ham dropped out of the Premier League from their current position, but they face a huge task at home to City on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers will then take on Leicester City, Manchester United and Everton in their final three league fixtures of the 2017-18 campaign, and defeat in all four would certainly leave them a bit vulnerable.

Leeds fans react as reported transfer target Kyle Bartley suffers knee injury

Swansea City confirmed on their official website on Monday that reported Leeds United transfer target Kyle Bartley suffered a knee ligament injury in his side’s defeat against Manchester City earlier this month, and Whites fans have been quick to have their say on the news.

The Yorkshire Post revealed exclusively on Saturday that the Yorkshire outfit have opened talks with the Welsh club about bringing the 6ft 4in centre-back back to Elland Road, following a successful season-long loan spell last term.

A deal for the 26-year-old looked doubtful when he signed a new contract to stay at the Liberty Stadium last August, but he has struggled for first-team minutes under current boss Carlos Carvalhal and has now suffered a potentially bad injury.

Leeds supporters, who have expressed their unhappiness with the man Bartley could replace, captain Liam Cooper, on Twitter, took to social media to give their thoughts on the injury update, and while one said signing him is “not worth the risk”, another disagreed and said “sign him anyway”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
