Shakib unavailable for Knight Riders

Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh allrounder, will be unavailable for selection for Kolkata Knight Riders for the Champions League Twenty20

Nagraj Gollapudi28-Aug-2014Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh allrounder, will be unavailable for selection for Kolkata Knight Riders for the Champions League Twenty20. Even though the BCB this week relaxed the ban imposed on Shakib by allowing him to play domestic cricket form September, he still needed a fresh No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the CLT20.The BCB reduced Shakib’s six-month suspension by three-and-a-half months, allowing him to be available for selection from September 15. However, the BCB’s ban on NOCs, required for Shakib to participate in overseas leagues, remain in place until the end of 2015.”Clearly for Champions League Twenty20 he is not available to us,” Venky Mysore, the Knight Riders’ chief executive, said. “Although we have the options it is unfortunate considering he is an important player for us. We just have to respect the BCB’s decision.”Shakib was an important contributor to Knight Riders in their title-winning 2014 IPL season, scoring 227 runs at a strike rate of 149.34 and taking 11 wickets with an economy rate of 6.68.It is understood that technically the existing NOC submitted by Shakib to the franchise is valid till December 2015 but due to the stringent posture taken by the BCB with respect to his recent actions, Shakib would have needed to get a fresh NOC in order to make himself available to play for Knight Riders.Incidentally, even if it is an extenuating circumstance, the tournament rules do not allow the Knight Riders to seek a replacement for Shakib. It is understood that only players who have featured in the IPL can be called up as replacements.

Amid a slew of changes to Pakistan cricket, Moin Khan has been named the new head coach of the national side. The decision was taken at an eight-member management committee meeting, a day after PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf was dismissed and the board of governors dissolved.Moin will replace Dav Whatmore, whose contract expires this month. He had been appointed team manager before the tour to Zimbabwe in August 2013 but had recently been replaced by Zakir Khan.In other major changes, Aamer Sohail’s appointment as chief selector last week was denounced, and former Pakistan cricketer Azhar Khan was put in charge of an interim selection committee. The committee, headed by newly reappointed PCB chairman Najam Sethi, also endorsed Mohammad Akram’s two-year contract as Pakistan’s bowling coach. A new fielding coach was also appointed, with Shoaib Mohammad put in charge for the Asia Cup and World Twenty20.When Ashraf was in charge of the PCB, he had appointed Sohail as director game and development national cricket academy and given him an additional charge of chief selector. But the Sethi-led PCB denounced a majority of the decisions taken by Ashraf since Ashraf came to power last month. “The management committee decided in principle that any decision which lacks transparency or due process shall not be ratified,” said Sethi while briefing the press in Lahore after a five-hour meeting.”(Since) PCB service rules were not followed in the decision to appoint him [Sohail] … further, the record reflects that Aamer Sohail was never issued a letter of appointment for any post in PCB, therefore he held no post in PCB.”The appointments of Mr. Basit Ali (coach of regional cricket academies in Karachi) and Mr. Mohammad Ilyas (chief selector of junior teams and the women’s national team) were not in accordance with PCB Services Rules. Their appointments are declared as void abinitio, null and void.”Apart from these major cricketing changes, the committee also took several administrative decisions including the appointment of the advisory Committee on Regional Affairs comprising representatives of Regions, and another committee on Cricketing Affairs comprising former captains and former chairmen of PCB.Though the PCB advertised three coaching positions including head, batting and fielding coach, the management committee scrapped the batting coach position. It has decided to introduce a new role called chief cricket consultant, filled by former captain Zaheer Abbas – also a managing committee member, has been named to travel with the team to supervise the batting department.

India's last chance to turn up before Test challenge

While South Africa will want to win what is likely to be their last ODI for months, India will hope to finally gain a semblance of confidence in alien conditions ahead of the Tests

Big PictureCenturion’s SuperSport Park was due to host the fourth ODI between South Africa and India as per the original schedule. In the early planning stages, the administrators were hopeful that it would be in the midst of an exciting series. Instead, what this ground has got is two dead rubbers, but they will be more pleased with this one. When South Africa played Pakistan here, the hosts had already lost the series. Now they will take on India, having already won.The difference in the results – a mere 12 days apart – is largely a sign of the opposition’s ability to adjust to these conditions, but it is also an indication of South Africa’s progress. AB de Villiers, South Africa’s captain, said he wanted consistency from his team at the end of the six-week period in which they would play 11 ODIs.He got some of that in the UAE, when they beat Pakistan 4-1 but was disappointed to see them lose immediately afterwards. Now, after three successive victories, things have begun to move in the way de Villiers would have wanted them to once again. While the bowling has remained outstanding throughout, the batting has caught up.De Villiers will want all departments firing in South Africa’s last ODI for months. With none scheduled against Australia, this is likely their final appearance in 50-overs cricket until July next year, when they are due to play Zimbabwe.India don’t have a gap that large and they won’t be looking too far ahead. For them, the match is about turning up, a week after arriving in the country. So far, they have failed to adjust to conditions with neither their batsmen nor their bowlers showing much aptitude for South African surfaces. With the Tests still to come and rain likely to affect the tour match, this may be their last chance to make the technical tweaks they need.Form guide South Africa: WWWLL (last five completed games, most recent first)
India: LLWLWIn the spotlightAdmittedly he has not had much opportunity to spend a lengthy period of time in the middle, but David Miller has gone 12 innings – across both the home and away series against Pakistan and the current one against India – without a fifty. At No. 6, Miller is expected to be the finisher but with little time to construct an innings, he has not always been able to fulfill that role. He will hope for a longer spell in the middle and a chance to show off both his big-hitting and his temperament. After slumping to 65 for 4 and 34 for 3 in the first two ODIs, India’s top order will be expected to have adjusted sufficiently to prevent another collapse. Their ability to deal with pace and the short ball will be under scrutiny on a surface that is expected to be another testing one, and India’s line-up will want to get it right with the Test series looming.Team news Despite making his return to ODI cricket just four matches ago, Jacques Kallis is being rested for the dead rubber. Henry Davids will come back into the side, with a view to improving his recent international showing. Wayne Parnell will play as the second allrounder, behind Ryan McLaren. One of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel may also be given a break and with no other seamers in the squad, that would allow Imran Tahir game time ahead of the Test series.South Africa: 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Henry Davids, 4 AB de Villiers (capt), 5 JP Duminy, 6 David Miller, 7 Ryan McLaren, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 and 10 Dale Steyn/Morne Morkel/Vernon Philander/Lonwabo Tsotsobe, 11 Imran TahirIndia changed the composition of their attack for the second ODI without success and may have to revert back to some of the seamers from the Johannesburg match. Umesh Yadav was the least impressive and could make way for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while it will be a tricky choice between Ishant Sharma and Mohit Sharma.India: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh/Ajinkya Rahane, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Ishant Sharma/Mohit Sharma, 11 Mohammed ShamiPitch and conditionsGiven India’s struggles with pace and bounce, another spicy surface can be expected. The curator may not have had much preparation time, with rain dominating the build-up – the showers may also extend into the match. Rain fell throughout Tuesday and more is forecast for Wednesday. The afternoon is set to be clear, but drizzle in the morning and evening could result in a curtailed match.Stats and trivia India’s attack have conceded over 260 runs in 10 of their previous 11 ODIs and over 300 in six of those With the series already decided, Pakistan remain the only subcontinent side to beat South Africa in a bilateral series at home What India can prevent is a two-point loss at the top of the rankings table. If they are defeated in the third match, they will remain in the No. 1 spot but will move from 121 points to 119. In that scenario, South Africa will gain two points and move up to fourth. If India win the match, South Africa remain in fifth placeQuotes “India rocked up as the No. 1 team and that presented a challenge for us. We met that with intensity and aggression.”

Fifties from opener Rob Quiney and Cameron White helped Victoria to a six-wicket win in their Ryobi Cup match against South Australia in Sydney.Victoria began their chase of 233 slowly, as Aaron Finch was run-out for 5 in the third over, but recovered with a 78-run stand for the second wicket between Quiney and Matthew Wade.Wade hit three fours and two sixes, but departed for a 51-ball 44 in the 21st over, with Victoria needing another 147 off 29 overs. South Australia captain Johan Botha introduced Sam Miller into the mix to try and enforce their advantage, but Quiney and White stood firm and batted out the next 18 overs.Quiney, who top-scored for Victoria in their last game against Tasmania, continued his good form, scoring a patient 65 that included just three fours. He found support in White, who scored an aggressive 89-ball 86 with six fours and four sixes.Quiney was caught by Chadd Sayers off Kane Richardson in the 39th over but David Hussey, accelerated for Victoria, racing to an unbeaten 28 off just 23, and ended the match with a six.South Australia were earlier propelled by a 64-run, sixth-wicket partnership between Tim Ludeman and Miller that took them to 6 for 232 in their 50 overs. Electing to bat, openers Michael Klinger and Phillip Hughes made a good start, scoring 69 off 15.4 overs, but Scott Boland – who struck twice in the 27th over – and Dan Christian picked up two wickets each to rattle their top and middle order.South Australia were struggling at 5 for 148 before Ludeman and Miller’s late surge took them to a competitive total.

Maroof, Dar help Pakistan to 157-run win

Fifties from captain Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar helped Pakistan Women to a 157-run victory over Ireland Women in Dublin

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Jul-2013
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsFifties from captain Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar helped Pakistan Women to a 157-run victory over Ireland Women in Dublin. After electing to bat, Pakistan’s openers laid a solid platform with a 47-run stand. However, three wickets fell in the space of 22 runs to push Pakistan on the back foot, with opening fast bowler Amy Kenealy picking up two of the three scalps. Maroof and Dar then combined to put on a 181-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which put Pakistan in control. Despite a few more wickets falling towards the end, Pakistan were able to reach a healthy 280 for 7, with Kenealy and Kim Garth each picking up three wickets.Ireland’s chase started inauspiciously, with Javeria Rauf snaring Clare Shillington for 6. Despite some small partnerships, none of the Ireland batsmen were able to put up an imposing score, and they crumbled through the middle overs thanks to a disciplined bowling effort from Pakistan. Only two batsmen, twins Isobel and Cecelia Joyce, were able to pass 20. Sadia Yousuf’s three wickets towards the end only hastened the inevitable as Ireland collapsed to 123.The second and last ODI of the series will be played on Friday. Pakistan had won the one-off Twenty20 earlier this week.

Rafael, atleta do Sport (sub-17); Igor, jogador do Internacional (sub-16); Arthur Bergamini, no Avaí (sub-17); Pedro Farias, integrante do Botafogo (sub-15).

De Boorder helps Otago stretch lead with win over Wellington

ScorecardCanterbury put up just about enough runs on the board to beat Northern Districts by eight runs in a high-scoring match in Hamilton. This was their third win in the competition while Northern Districts conceded their fourth loss in nine games. The win has put Canterbury in with a mathematical chance to make it to the finals if they win both their remaining matches. Northern Districts, who came into the match placed third in the table, are now left in a must-win situation in their last league match against Wellington.Deciding to bat first, Canterbury were off to a rapid start but lost Rob Nicol in the third over. His more aggressive opening partner George Worker fell for 27 an over later, but Bradley Cachopa and Andrew Ellis added 39 runs for the third wicket off just 28 balls. The rapid start gave Tom Latham and Brendon Diamanti the foundation to launch from, and they blasted the next 70 off just 38 balls. Latham struck 52 off 29 balls which included three sixes off consecutive balls off an Anurag Verma over, giving Canterbury a competitive 184 in 20 overs.Brent Arnell took four wickets for 22 runs but none of the other Northern District bowlers could make an impression on Canterbury. The story continued with the batsmen too.Canterbury left-arm spinner Ronnie Hira then took three key wickets to scuttle Northern District’s fall, taking 3 for 16 in four overs. Brad Wilson’s 36 and 25 each from James Foster and Jono Bolt were not enough contributions in a big chase.
ScorecardOtago maintained their position at the top of the HRC Cup table with their seventh straight win as they sidelined second-placed Wellington by 12 runs at the Basin Reserve.Otago made a quick start, adding 36 for the opening wicket in 4.2 overs, after they won the toss and elected to bat first. The fall of the wicket didn’t slow the team down as skipper Derek de Boorder joined Hamish Rutherford to keep the scoring-rate up. Even after the fall of Rutherford, Otago kept coming up with regular partnerships that didn’t let the scoring slow down. De Boorder was the last wicket to fall in the innings, off the penultimate ball, after he had scored 67 off 44 balls to set up a strong total.Wellington’s chances of getting a good start were struck a blow when seamer James Fuller got the big wicket of Jesse Ryder. There were useful contributions from Tamim Iqbal and CA Borgas, but none of them were allowed to break free. In the end, Grant Elliot made a late effort with an 18-ball 36 but Wellington fell short by 12 runs.Wellington need to win their last match against Northern Districts to qualify for the finals, but a loss would leave them vulnerable to Auckland’s and Canterbury’s results.

Gidman stands down as Gloucestershire captain

Alex Gidman has stepped down as Gloucestershire captain after four years in the role

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Sep-2012Alex Gidman has stepped down as Gloucestershire captain after four years in the role. The club endured a disappointing 2012 season, finishing bottom of the County Championship, although Gidman has said his decision is due to him wanting to focus on batting.Gidman, 31, who previously served three years as vice-captain, scored 528 runs at 25.14 in the Championship.Gidman said: “I am very proud of the contribution I have been able to make as Gloucestershire captain. But I have not enjoyed the role as much this season and feel the time is right for someone else to take over.”My intention now is to spend the time I was taking up with captaincy issues on improving my own game. My plan for this winter is to devote more hours to practice and fitness work than I have ever done. Hopefully that will result in lots of runs for the team next summer.”Tom Richardson, the chief executive, said consideration would be given to replacing Gidman as captain with an overseas signing for 2013 season. The club’s overseas players this year were Kane Williamson, Rob Nicol and briefly Ed Cowan although both New Zealand and Australia are touring England next season. The club’s director of cricket John Bracewell added: “Alex has faced a particularly tough period as captain trying to deliver success with a young and developing squad.”With all the extra demands on him, he has not been able to spend the time he wants to on his own game. He still has a stack of runs left in him as a player and I’m sure will benefit from being free of the worries captaincy brings.”
