Guler scores first goal for Real Madrid
Moved to Spanish capital last summer
Becomes youngest Turkish scorer in La Liga
WHAT HAPPENED?
Guler made a sensational move to the Spanish capital from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, with Real reportedly beating Barcelona to his signature. The highly rated youngster has struggled through the start of his career with the Los Blancos as he has found it difficult to break into Carlo Ancelotti's side and has also suffered through multiple injury issues. He will feel relived to have finally got off the mark, and managed to do so in style, calmly rounding the goalkeeper after being played through before finishing calmly to round off a 4-0 win for Real over Celta.

WHAT NEXT FOR GULER?
Next up for the Turkish midfielder and Real Madrid will be their visit to El Sadar Stadium as they take on Osasuna in their next La Liga game on Saturday, March 16. Despite the goal, it is unlikely that Guler will get the nod from Ancelotti to start the game ahead of his competition.
Aside from Bukayo Saka's recent injury amidst a shock Champions League defeat to Lens, it could be said that Arsenal's season so far has been near-faultless. Under Mikel Arteta, the atmosphere around the club is positive and progressive, as the unbeaten Gunners look to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City once again in the Premier League title race.
The new faces have adapted well. As have the old, like Reiss Nelson and even Eddie Nketiah – both former fringe players have got a newfound purpose this season. Developments in the last two terms have presented a stark contrast to Arsenal of recent failure. There's been infighting, unbearable characters, and controversy – and that's just Arsenal Fan TV!
In what truly feels like a new era, Arsenal have seemingly moved past those deadwood squad members – and unfortunately one of those players that was an image of a lackadaisical Arsenal was once-prolific Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
How good was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?
The topic of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang brings back great memories. I'm not an Arsenal fan, so understandably my view of him has hardly been tarnished in that regard. Yet, the mere mention of his name brings back memories of a better time. A time of just so much football, a very basic iPad iteration of FIFA 12, and less stress than now (not hard).
Cliché aside, at this time – the French-born Gabonese striker was a reason to keep investing in learning this beloved sport. A sport that brings us all together, both writer and reader.
A transfer addition to a legendary Borussia Dortmund career mode, there he was. 22-years-old, the age I type this out, truly finding his feet at Saint-Étienne in real-time. He'd been allowed to leave Milan after three years with the Rossoneri, as multiple loans to Dijon, Lille, and Saint-Étiennehadn't given them anything to be impressed by.
In December 2011, Aubameyang signed permanently for Les Verts and even received the number seven shirt – such was the confidence of then-boss Christophe Galtier.
The club's repayment? A first season of 16 Ligue 1 goals. In the second, he scored 19 before Europe's elites took notice in the shop window of summer '13. In the virtual land of make-believe, 12-year-old me was ahead of the curve.
Initially, I was stunned when Dortmund signed him on a five-year-deal, I'd signed him first. My game's exploits were mirrored in real life. Alas, where both myself and Galtier found a sole similarity in Auba appreciation, as had the Dortmund faithful as over a stunning five seasons, Aubameyang threw himself into the upper echelons of European football, scoring an unbelievable 141 goals in 211 all-competition games as his team achieved a sole DFB-Pokal victory.
With the Premier League seemingly being the benchmark for any top talent, Arsenal just pipped Manchester United's £50m bid and signed their man for £56m.
An eccentric, talented player moving to London – it seemed a match made in heaven. Unfortunately though, fast-forward several years beyond consistent North London performances – Aubameyang's appeal looked to have worn off and he departed for Barcelona, then rivals Chelsea 2022.
Why did Aubameyang leave Arsenal?
Aubameyang was as said, an eccentric character. However, with a fresh new manager and familiar face in Arteta at the club, the Spaniard ultimately didn't have time for the Gabon man's casual way of life.
In February 2021, Aubameyang broke COVID rules to get a tattoo. A month later, the boss was left frustrated when Auba arrived at the north London derby late. As punishment, he was benched.

With a stricter new ruler, more so than the genial figures of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel before, and the fact that he was supposed to be a captain figure; it seemed Arsenal wasn't a true fit even if Aubameyang was enjoying London life.
Form on the pitch faltered too but Arteta alleged that the four goals in 14 had nothing to do with the striker's departure. As stated by a Guardian article, an insistent Aubameyang on signing for Barcelona, stated: "The problem was only with Arteta."
In hindsight, it is somewhat difficult to side with Aubameyang, given his trajectory through weird COVID-transfer-Barca, early-Boehly Chelsea and now seemingly home-bound retreat. Arsenal heads in the opposite direction, with youthful troops all determined for a common goal of success – they're not just in it for fun.
January 2022's departure where he left on a free wasn't a rash decision from Arteta, even if he had been touted at £50m a few years prior. The striker's AFCON palava with delayed travel and illness might've simply been the final straw. The fact that his best mate, Alexandre Lacazette, also departed soon after, potentially signals that changing of the guard. Casualties of progress.
Where is Aubameyang now?
While Aubameyang's career will be forever synonymous with some excellently frenetic scoring displays, his career's pace has slowed with the 34-year-old struggling at Marseille. After a controversial Chelsea spell.
Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette
He's goalless this season in the league, and what once would've been a laughable statement at the Emirates, Eddie Nketiah finds himself at a more prolific status – even with his two goals in seven Premier League games.
Such form extends back to last season where the former Gunner found the net just three times compared to Nketiah's nine. Here's hoping this striker manages to stay in Arteta's good books.

The hosts opened up the scoring 14 minutes into the match through winger Jared Stroud. However, the Herons responded 10 minutes later with a goal from Ecuadorian striker Leonardo Campana. A first MLS assist for new signing Federico Redondo, the Argentine found Campana for a clinical finish.
Heading into the halftime break at a deadlock, Tata Martino brought on Miami leading-scorer Luis Suarez in the 62nd minute, and the Uruguayan put on a show.
He put the Herons up 2-1 in controversial fashion 10 minutes after coming onto the pitch, scoring off a brilliant counter-attack. However, prior to the finish, it appeared that Inter Miami committed a handball offense in their own box – only to see VAR say no, and hand the Herons the goal.
Suarez added to his tally to put the game away in the 85th minute with a cheeky finish to make it 3-1, handing Miami their third win of the MLS season. A late D.C. red card put things to bed, when Pedro Santos was removed for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the 90th minute.

THE MVP
Luis Suarez: The best player on the pitch Saturday only played 28 minutes, but boy did he make an impact. Two goals to add to his tally, he now has four goals in MLS, but across all competitions, he has six goals and five assists. A stunning cameo to singlehandedly win Miami the game, the brilliant 37-year-old made his impact, handing them a victory without Messi on the pitch.

THE BIG LOSER
The Inter Miami defense: Another day, another injury for the Herons. They lost Argentine defender Nicolas Freire 31 minutes into the match. Their defense is already the weakest part of their squad, so losing a starting centerback is a disaster for Tata Martino's team, especially with no Lionel Messi in the team until further notice.
They'll have to figure things out soon if they want to succeed week-in and week-out, because lapses on their back line have doomed them throughout the season so far. They were lucky to have Suarez in the second half, because without him, the result may not have been as favorable.

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for an “exceptional” European champion in the summer transfer window, according to a new update.
Newcastle transfer news as Mitchell targets forwards
The Magpies continue to be linked with new signings, including Jack Grealish, who could potentially depart Manchester City at the end of the season. The England international hasn’t always managed to consistently impress for the reigning Premier League champions and could jump at the chance for a fresh challenge.
A new centre-back is also a must for Newcastle this summer, with Kalidou Koulibaly mentioned as an option for Eddie Howe. While the former Napoli man possesses plenty of experience, he is now 33 years of age and doesn’t represent a long-term option at St James’ Park.
Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is another reported target for the Magpies, with the Englishman playing a key role in his side’s superb season, helping them sit third in the Premier League table currently.
Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle is likely to be a talking point at the end of the campaign, and while he will hopefully stay put, added competition is needed, with Callum Wilson possibly moving on. Roma ace Tammy Abraham is seen as an option, with the former Chelsea man on loan at AC Milan this season.
Newcastle send scouts to watch "exceptional" winger
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are “considering a move” for Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman this summer, with Manchester United believed to be providing competition. Paul Mitchell has sent officials to keep an eye on him in recent months and Atalanta are believed to be open to selling if an offer of around £54m arrives.
The 27-year-old has been in a spat with his manager Gian Piero Gasperini after his boss called him “one of the worst penalty takers”, following a miss he was not supposed to take in a Champions League defeat to Club Brugge last week. He responded angrily on social media, calling his boss “disrespectful” and claiming the designated spot-kick taker asked him to take it.
Atalanta's AdemolaLookmanin action with Como's Maxence Caqueret
Lookman could be a brilliant signing for Newcastle this summer, with the Nigeria international at the peak of his career, scoring a hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen. The attacking ace even has some experience of Premier League football, scoring 11 goals in 96 appearances in the competition, while Samuel Eto’o has heaped praise on him, calling him “exceptional”.
The fact that Lookman has clashed with Gasperini suggests that a summer exit could be on the cards for him at Atalanta, and Newcastle should be looking to pounce. While used as a central striker a lot of late, the former Everton man is also adept at shining in a wide attacking role, which could easily appeal to Howe, as he looks for added depth on the right hand side to compete with Jacob Murphy.

Kasparij charged by the FA for indecent behaviour
Has until April 3 to respond
FA deemed her action as "insulting or abusive"

WHAT HAPPENED?
Casparij finds herself at the centre of controversy after being charged by the Football Association (FA) for allegedly making an offensive gesture during the Manchester derby on March 23rd.
The charge against Casparij stems from an incident in the 37th minute of the match when City's Jess Park scored. It was during this crucial moment that Casparij is alleged to have made a middle-finger gesture towards the away supporters of United, sparking controversy and leading to the subsequent FA charge.

Casparij now has until April 3rd to respond to the charge levelled against her by the FA. This period allows her and her legal representatives to present any evidence or arguments in her defence before a decision is made.
WHAT THE FA SAID
A statement put out by the FA read: "Manchester City Women's Kerstin Casparij has been charged after their Women's Super League game against Manchester United Women on Saturday 23 March.
"It's alleged that the player's conduct during the 37th minute was offensive, insulting or abusive, and she has until Wednesday 3 April to provide a response."

DID YOU KNOW?
City's on-field performance on that day saw them emerge 3-1 triumphant over their rivals, temporarily taking the top spot in the Women's Super League standings. However, their reign at the summit was short-lived as Chelsea's subsequent victory over West Ham propelled the Blues to the top of the table, albeit on goal difference.
After a rough start to the season, Leeds United finally look like they have found some form in the Championship, in part thanks to their summer signings like Joel Piroe and Ethan Ampadu.
That said, the Peacocks haven't had the most success when it comes to signings over the last few years, and for as brilliant a manager Marcelo Bielsa was, some of his signings at the club were pretty shocking.
With that in mind, Football FanCast has taken a look at the ten worst signings Leeds United made during the Argentine's reign.
10
Liam McCarron (£250k)
Signed for just €290k (£250k) from Carlisle United, it might be a bit harsh to label the youngster a flop, but given how McCarron's time in West Yorkshire went, it would be hard to call it anything else.
His arrival was met with hope from the Leeds hierarchy that after a few years bedding into the side, he would become a regular starter in the Premier League for the team.
Unfortunately, after just a single nine-minute appearance for the senior team in three years, it became painfully apparent that he wasn't of the level required. He is now a Stoke City player and on loan at Port Vale.
9
Helder Costa (£16m)
Now, this one might raise a few eyebrows; after all, Helder Costa was one of the most important players in the team that helped get Leeds promoted back to the Premier League in 2020.
However, that was when he was on loan at the club, but after the Whites splashed out £16m to make his deal permanent, he became incredibly unproductive – to put it diplomatically.
In the three years following his permanent move, Costa played just 25 Premier League games for Leeds, scoring just three goals and providing three assists. In fact, he became so unproductive in West Yorkshire that he spent last season on loan with Al-Ittihad and spent the season before that with Valencia.
His contract was terminated by mutual consent earlier this month, and he is still without a club. Oh, what could have been.
8
Diego Llorente (£18m)
Leeds defender Diego Llorente.
Signed from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020 for £18m, Diego Llorente wasn't dreadful in his first season; he was just injured for a lot of it.
That said, when he was playing regularly in his second season at the club, he just looked totally out of his depth. Leeds were a defensive mess in the 2021/22 season, and Llorente was a big part of that.
The Spaniard was loaned out to Jose Mourinho's Roma in January of this year, where he remains this season. He may not have been responsible for all of Leeds' defensive woes under Bielsa, but he certainly didn't help.
Now, hold your horses there, Arsenal fans; we aren't calling Eddie Nketiah a bad player here, not by any stretch of the imagination; in fact, we have picked him for this list as the decision to take him on loan and then barely play him ranks as one of Bielsa's most baffling.
The Arsenal forward was sent out on loan in the summer of 2019 and then recalled just a few months later in January over concerns that he wasn't getting enough game time – valid concerns, at that.
It turned out that Bielsa favoured Patrick Bamford over the young Gooner, and while that ultimately worked out for the club in terms of promotion, it also directly led to the club signing off on the worst transfer made under Bielsa's watch, meaning his usage of Nketiah has to go down as a huge error of judgement…
6
Lewis Baker (Loan)
Our second loan player on this list is Lewis Baker, who, at the time, was seen as the next big thing to come out of Chelsea's Cobham academy.
However, he failed to impress Bielsa and, just like Nketiah, was recalled to his parent club midway through the season over concerns about playing time.
That said, while the Arsenal man has since gone on to prove the Argentine wrong by regularly starting for a title-chasing Gunners side, Baker has since faded into relative obscurity and now plies his trade for Stoke City.
5
Ian Poveda
Ian Poveda for Leeds
Ian Poveda joined Leeds United in January 2020 from Manchester City's academy for an undisclosed fee.
His move was met with quite a lot of excitement as there was a general expectation that he would be the next big thing out of the club's academy.
Well, it's been three and a half years, and we think it's safe to say he hasn't met those expectations, and if we're being honest, he hasn't even come close.
In all, the 23-year-old has made just 25 appearances for the club and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool respectively.
4
Junior Firpo (£12.7m)
Junior Firpo left frustrated as he plays for Leeds United in the Premier League.
The story of Junior Firpo is similar to Diego Llorente's. The defender was signed from Barcelona in the summer of 2021 for around £13m, and there was quite a bit of excitement surrounding his arrival.
Unfortunately, that excitement proved to be misplaced as the rapid full-back became part of a backline that conceded an astronomical number of goals across the 2021/22 season – 79 to be exact.
There have been moments since his arrival in which it looked like he would be moving on, but just over two years later, he is still at the club; aside from longevity, we aren't sure we can say much else positive about his time at Leeds.
3
Robin Koch (£11.5m)
Premier League, Leeds United, Leeds United news, Leeds United latest news, Leeds United performance, Leeds United analysis, LUFC news, LUFC team news, LUFC analysis, Fulham vs Leeds, Robin Koch
Signed from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg for a fee of around £11.5m in summer 2020, the German centre-back came to Leeds with so much promise but ultimately left as a disappointment.
When he joined the team, he was getting fairly regular call-ups to the German national team, but in the three and a half years since he signed for the club, he has played in just four games for Germany.
Along with failing to live up to people's expectations, he also spent a significant period on the sidelines injured. The move really was just a failure in all departments.
After playing a crucial role in some of the worst defensive teams the Premier League had seen in recent years and being a part of the squad that was ultimately relegated, Koch finally left to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.
2
Daniel James (£25m)
Daniel James could stay at Elland Road.
Daniel James is our pick for the second-worst signing made by Leeds United during the Marcelo Bielsa era, and it's not really close.
The Welsh international was actually set to sign for the Whites back in January 2019 and was even at Elland Road taking pictures and partaking in a documentary, but reported disagreements inside of Swansea City caused the deal to collapse at the 11th hour, leaving all parties embarrassed and Leeds without their man.
Honestly, the Peacocks should've taken that as a sign. Instead, the rapid winger signed for Manchester United in the summer and spent the following two years trying to make it at Old Trafford.
In August 2021, it was clear that he had no place at United, so when Leeds came knocking again, he jumped at the chance to rebuild his career in West Yorkshire.
The Whites agreed to pay £25m for James – £10m more than United paid and £15m more than they were going to pay in 2019 – and he joined the club on a five-year contract.
He would make 36 Premier League appearances in 2021/22, scoring just four goals and providing five assists. However, after just one year at Leeds, he moved to Fulham on loan, claiming that it was about game time.
He has since returned to the Peacocks and has played nine games in the Championship, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
In the end, there is some talent there, but a considerable fee, below-par attacking output, and jumping ship after his first season means we couldn't place him any higher on this list. Maybe he'll redeem himself in the Championship this season.
1
Jean-Kevin Augustin (£40m in total)
Here we are then, the worst singing Leeds United made during Bielsa's tenure as manager, and to call it the worst transfer in the club's history might still be doing it a disservice.
The reason this deal was even signed off in the first place was that the club needed a backup striker once Nketiah was recalled.
So the club reached out to RB Leipzig in Germany and offered to take the promising Augustin on a season-long loan.
The Frenchman ultimately ended up playing just 48 minutes of football for the club, but the loan deal stipulated that were Leeds to achieve promotion in May of that year, they would have to pay £18m to sign the player on a permanent deal.
Now, as we all know, Leeds did make it back to the Premier League that year, but the pandemic put a halt to all football in March, and so when they did finally gain promotion, it was June, not May.
The Peacocks assumed that because of the unique circumstances, they wouldn't have to pay the £18m for the striker, but as you would expect, Leipzig protested to FIFA, who then forced Leeds to pay £15.5m to settle the dispute.
However, it gets worse. The Athletic revealed earlier this year that they would also have to pay out the player's entire five-year contract he was set to sign, which amounted to another £24.5m.
So, in all, Leeds have had to pay £40m for a player who made just three substitute appearances for them, totalling 48 minutes, which has to make this one of the worst transfers in English football history. If only they had given Nketiah more minutes.
Glasgow Rangers kept their second consecutive clean sheet and came away from Prague with an unlikely point after swatting away an onslaught during their Europa League clash on Thursday evening.
Philippe Clement saw his side escape with a 0-0 draw against Sparta Prague and while the first half was rather underwhelming, the Gers came into the match during the second half and were unlucky to not emerge with all three points following some positive substitutions.
With a tie against Hearts to come this afternoon, the Belgian may look to rotate some of his squad where possible and this should mean dropping Cyriel Dessers to the bench.
Cyriel Dessers struggled against Sparta Prague
The striker has scored just four goals across 17 matches for the Light Blues and against the Czech side, he looked out of sorts.
Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers.
The Nigerian international somehow managed to remain on the pitch for 74 minutes and, during that time, he took just 21 touches, completed only six passes, and failed to take a single shot, offering very little to the team whilst leading the line.
His performance came under scrutiny from Rangers Review journalist Jonny McFarlane, who dubbed the 28-year-old as a “terrible signing” while also saying that “he gives his team no chance” and it is time that he made way for another summer signing today – Brazilian attacker Danilo.
Danilo nearly scored the winner against Sparta Prague
The 5 foot 9 forward has yet to make his mark at the club and has missed a number of games after he fractured his cheekbone against St Johnstone last month.
Before then, he had made just four starts for the Light Blues while scoring three goals, and the Brazilian has looked like a menacing threat in the final third in his short time at Ibrox so far.
Clement will be hoping to count on the player in the next few weeks, and he could have changed the outcome of the match in midweek, impressing as a substitute.
Rangers striker Danilo.
Across just 16 minutes of action, Danilo had two shots – with one crashing off the crossbar – while also winning one ground duel and making one tackle, yet it was his impact that gave the Gers impetus in the final minutes.
With Dessers failing to contribute with any meaningful action during his spell on the pitch, the dynamic changed the moment the former Feyenoord striker replaced him and this could be vital heading into the next few weeks.
Clement hailed him following the match, saying he had “looked bright” but also claiming that “we need to focus on making him stronger” and the closer he returns to full fitness, the better Rangers will be that’s for sure.
The signing of Dessers is looking more and more strange as time goes on as he fails to offer any substantial attacking threat in the final third.
It will be interesting to see what kind of future he has under the Belgian manager, but for the match this afternoon, Danilo simply has to be unleashed from the first whistle.
If he is, the Gers could secure yet another league victory and continue their momentum under Clement, and the ex-Eredivisie marksman could get Ibrox rocking with a strong performance through the middle of the pitch.

WHAT NEXT?
After facing Sweden – who are sixth in the world rankings – at Wembley, Sarina Wiegman's side, who are the second-highest ranked side on the planet, travel to Dublin to take on the Republic of Ireland next Tuesday.
Tottenham Hotspur are said to have their eyes on a "magnificent" Premier League defender "in addition" to the heavily-linked Lloyd Kelly.
Spurs prioritise new centre-back
According to reports in the last two days, Spurs are prioritising the signing of a new centre-back in January. There have been rumours that manager Ange Postecoglou is keen to bring in a left-winger, alongside the possibility of a Harry Kane replacement, but it appears defence is high on the agenda right now.
Both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, Postecoglou's star centre-back pairing, are currently shining at the heart of Tottenham's defence and have attracted real praise. However, the only other option to either man is out-of-favour ace Eric Dier, who may well leave on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.
cristian-romero-micky-van-de-ven-spurs-opinion
Losing one of van de Ven or Romero would be a major blow to Postecoglou, as the duo have formed one of the Premier League's best defensive pairings so far this season. They've started every single one of Tottenham's opening 10 league matches, playing a heavy hand in their unbeaten run where Spurs have tasted victory in eight of them.
The Lilywhites quite simply need sufficient cover, as a long season usually throws up various niggles, injury problems and suspensions. It is believed that Spurs are interested in Trevoh Chalobah as an option from Chelsea, with Bournemouth's Kelly also reportedly re-emerging as a top target after they failed with a deadline-day bid over the summer.
Tottenham eyeing Tosin "in addition to Kelly"
Now, according to 90min, the Cherries captain may not be the only summer target to still have admiration from Spurs. Indeed, as per their information, Tottenham are eyeing Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo as they weigh up centre-back options for the winter. This is "in addition to Kelly" as new sporting director Johan Lange seemingly gets to work on his pre-January plans behind the scenes.
Fulham defenderTosin Adarabioyo.
The former Man City starlet was held in high esteem before leaving Eastlands in 2020. Pep Guardiola praised Tosin for his physical attributes not long before then, calling the Englishman a "fast and "strong" player.
“He is fast, strong in the air, and has the quality to look forward behind the line for the next pass,” the Catalan said (via GOAL).
“He definitely has a future in the first team. He is a nice guy, his mind is open, he listens, he trains every day like it’s the last training of his life and I like to work with these kinds of players a lot.”
The 26-year-old has played just one minute in the Premier League under Marco Silva, but did manage to impress last season. According to WhoScored, Tosin stood out as one of Fulham's best performers in terms of clearances made per 90.
