Leeds: Orta interest in Okafor

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Noah Okafor to the club in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Italian media outlet Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), who claim that all three of Leeds, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are keeping track of the Red Bull Salzburg centre-forward ahead of launching a potential move for the 22-year-old in the winter market – which opens in a little under four months’ time.

Earlier reports had claimed that several clubs from Germany and England were interested in a deal for the Switzerland international over the summer transfer window – with RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle United all named as potential suitors – while the forward is also reported to be open to the idea of a switch to the Premier League.

The next Haaland

Considering just how exciting a prospect Okafor very much appears to be, it is unsurprising to learn that Leeds have now joined the long list of clubs keeping tabs on the Salzburg starlet ahead of a potential move further down the line.

Indeed, the £16.2m-rated talent has been in red hot form over his seven Austrian Bundesliga appearances – only four of which have come as starts – so far this season, having already bagged four goals, registered one assist and created two big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 1.6 shots – 0.7 of which have hit the target – making 1.6 key passes and completing 1.6 dribbles per game.

These returns have seen the 22-year-old – who can also operate from central and attacking midfield, as well as on either flank – average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.09, ranking him as his club’s ninth-best performer in the league so far this term.

The striker also very much caught the eye in Salzburg’s 1-1 Champions League draw with AC Milan on Tuesday evening, taking three shots at goal, completing three dribbles, winning seven duels and scoring a spectacular opening goal – cutting in from the left before nutmegging Milan centre-back Pierre Kalulu and cooly sliding the ball beyond an onrushing Mike Maignan.

Indeed, considering his deadly nature in front of goal, his potential for exponential growth and the fact he has cut his teeth at Salzburg, it is hardly surprising to see the Swiss sensation earn comparisons to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland – the forward who scored an astonishing 27 goals over 27 games during his own time in Austria.

As such, while it is true that Okafor is actually a couple of months older than the Norweigan monster, should Orta go on to seal a deal for the player who Josh Bunting dubbed a “superb talent” this January, the Spaniard could well have unearthed the next Haaland-esque discovery from Salzburg – a prospect that is sure to excite supporters and Jesse Marsch alike.

Another Aston Villa illness: Striker now a doubt vs Southampton

Aston Villa could well be without Ollie Watkins for this evening’s clash with Southampton due to illness.

The Lowdown: Goalkeeper worries

Steven Gerrard’s side return to action this evening at Villa Park, however, he could be forced into several changes from the draw with Manchester City last time out.

Matty Cash is set to be ruled out with a hamstring issue, while goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was sent home from training on Thursday due to illness.

Number two Robin Olsen has a knee problem and Jed Steer is also out, which could leave Gerrard with a major selection headache in goal, although it is expected Martinez will recover and feature.

The Latest: Watkins worry

Taking to Twitter on Thursday afternoon, Ashley Preece relayed news from Gerrard’s pre-match press conference.

He said that ‘Watkins has also been ill’ alongside Martinez, so it looks as if he could be touch and go for tonight.

The Verdict: Not ideal

Watkins is yet to miss a match this season and has been Gerrard’s go-to striker in 4-3-3 and 4-3-1-2 systems. Therefore, being without the England international would be a blow in a game that many would argue is must win following a poor start to the season.

Watkins’ potential absence would leave Gerrard with Danny Ings and youngster Cameron Archer as options, potentially limiting Gerrard to a 4-3-3 formation.

Wolves face battle for Francisco Trincao

Wolverhampton Wanderers may face a battle to keep hold of Barcelona-loanee Francisco Trincao for next season, should Bruno Lage consider him part of his plans.

What’s the word?

That is according to a report from Sport Witness  (via TEAMtalk), who claim that the West Midlands side face competition from Liga Portugal side Sporting CP, who have made the former Braga man a “priority.”

As per the report, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is the man who has made Trincao the club’s priority signing, with the 37-year-old having managed the Barcelona-loanee when the pair were at Braga.

Sporting understand that Wolves have an option to buy clause as part of the loan deal that saw him make the temporary switch to Molineux, though reportedly remain confident in completing a deal for the 22-year-old with Wolves undecided on activating the option to buy clause.

According to Transfermarkt, the loan cost Wolves £5.4m with the option to buy clause set at £25m.

Goncalves 2.0

Trincao’s future at Wolves is entirely dependent on Lage’s decision. Whilst he has managed just two goals and one assist in 27 Premier League games, there have been glimpses of the player that struck eight assists in 27 appearances for Braga just two seasons ago.

Going by the expected goals tally, Trincao, who has been described as a player who can make a “massive impact”, should have four goals this season, which whilst is still not exceptional for a player of his talent, would see him rank as the Old Gold’s third-highest goalscorer behind Hwang-hee Chan and Raul Jimenez who have notched five and six goals respectively.

With Trincao being one of two left-footed forwards at the club, he offers Lage an unorthodox option throughout the role of an inverted winger, and with the recent switch in tactics to a counter-pressing 3-5-2 system, the Portuguese attacker could massively benefit from such a direct approach.

As it stands, the Barcelona loanee has just two more games to prove his worth, with Lage yet to make a formal decision on the matter. He will have to decide pretty soon though amidst the expiring loan deal and severe interest from Sporting.

However, judging by the impact Pedro Goncalves has made since swapping Wolverhampton for Lisbon, the Old Gold could be staring down the barrel of another disastrous transfer decision.

Since moving away from Wolves, the fellow Portuguese star has scored 38 times in just 77 outings. The last thing Lage would want is a repeat scenario of that.

Liverpool: Nketiah can replace Origi

Liverpool should swoop for “clinical” Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah this summer. He would be available on a free transfer and would make the perfect replacement for Divock Origi.

According to a report from 90min earlier this month, Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Nketiah who hasn’t signed a new deal with Arsenal as he wants to explore all of his options ahead of next season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Their interest comes as Origi is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires in the summer, with it looking increasingly likely he will move to Serie A side AC Milan. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that the player had informed Liverpool of his decision to leave and it was likely he would end up in Italy.

Nketiah would represent the perfect replacement for him, but The Reds aren’t the only team interested, with fellow Premier League club Chelsea also keeping a close eye on his future. The player could be tempted by a move to West London given he already plays for a club in the city.

However, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that Nketiah can become his next Origi, and be a vital squad player for Liverpool who can step up when needed. If he moved to Merseyside he might not start a huge amount of games, but he would get to work with one of the world’s best coaches and likely win a lot of silverware in the process.

He’s rated at £9m, but the fact he would be available for nothing makes it even more appealing, and gives him a lot more options. The 22-year-old has featured 20 times for The Gunners this season the majority of which have come from the bench.

If you compare him to Origi over the course of the campaign it’s clear to see that he would be capable of taking his place. Nketiah has made double the number of goal creating actions than the Belgian this season, and has a higher percentage when it comes to successful dribbles at 38% compared to Origi’s 33%.

Liverpool seems to be the perfect place for young players to go, with Klopp being notorious for getting the most out of them.

Whilst Nketiah, who has 28 senior goals to his name, might not get as much game time if he moved, we think he would be better off for it, and could eventually become a regular when he’s had more time to develop.

Man City: Scottish giants eyeing City duo

Manchester City duo Ko Itakura and Taylor Harwood-Bellis could both leave the club this summer, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The lowdown: Eternal loanees

Both Ikatura and Harwood-Bellis have spent much of their careers out on loan away from the Etihad in recent times, including the majority of the 2021/22 campaign.

Japan international defender Ikatura signed for City in 2019 but has since had two spells at FC Groningen before joining FC Schalke 04 for the recent season.

Meanwhile, academy graduate Harwood-Bellis has spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Anderlecht but finished the term at Championship outfit Stoke, having joined in January.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-latest-developments-3/” title=”Man City latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

As both are set to return to Manchester for pre-season, their longer-term futures could be in jeopardy.

The latest: Celtic interested

As per Sky Sports, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are believed to be ‘monitoring’ Manchester City’s 25-year-old Ikatura and 20-year-old Harwood-Bellis.

Both central defenders are on the radar of the Glasgow giants as it’s believed Schalke are struggling to meet a £6million option to buy for the eight-cap Japan ace.

The report confirms at present ‘no contact’ has been made, however, Celtic may look to utilise a ‘good relationship’ with the club in an attempt to sign the City pair.

The verdict: Double departure possible

Allowing the permanent transfer of Ikatura seems the best move for all parties at this stage as the Japanese centre-back approaches three years at the club without so much of a sniff at first-team action under Pep Guardiola.

Signed for just £990,000 from J1-League side Kawasaki Frontale (Transfermarkt), the Citizens will make a profit on their expenditure and as such should be willing to sanction the sale.

The exit of Harwood-Bellis is a more complicated situation, as the starlet hailed for a ‘fantastic’ display against Oxford United in 2019 by Raheem Sterling clearly has a bright future and Guardiola may yet see a pathway to the senior side for the Stockport-born defender.

Perhaps a loan move to Celtic could be negotiated as the best option for the four-cap England Under 21 prospect.

Everton: Dean Jones drops Armando Broja claim

Everton boss Frank Lampard could ‘use his contacts’ to send a ‘big message’ and bring Armando Broja to Goodison Park.

The Lowdown: Interest in Broja

According to a report by GOAL, Premier League sides West Ham and Newcastle, along with Serie A clubs AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli, are all in the race to secure the Albania international’s signature.

The 20-year-old made 32 top-flight appearances whilst on loan at Southampton this season, and Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl made it clear that he wanted to keep hold of the talented striker.

However, a recent farewell message on Instagram suggests that Broja will not be heading back to St Mary’s next season.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-5/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: ‘Big message’

Whilst there has been other Premier League interest in Broja, transfer insider Dean Jones thinks Everton should be the club to go all out for the youngster, believing Lampard could send a ‘big message’.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, he claimed:

“I’m not sure West Ham have got the interest that they had at one point, so I don’t think there’s the competition level there for Broja anymore.

“Lampard obviously can use his contacts to get into Broja early, speak to him himself, and just try and convince him that Everton is a club that’s going to be in transition but in a good way. That’s going to be the big message that they send out.”

The Verdict: Strong signing

With the ongoing financial fair play situation at Goodison, Lampard may be forced into selling one of Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin (via 90min).

If the England international were to go, Broja could be a strong replacement due to his similar profile. Coming in at 6 foot 3, the Albanian ranks in the 86th percentile for aerials won when compared with positional peers across Europe (via FB Ref).

Therefore, if Lampard can use his contacts at Chelsea to get a deal over the line, the man dubbed ‘athletic and powerful’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig could be a very good signing for Everton.

Liverpool now eyeing Mane replacement

Liverpool are interested in signing FC Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

What’s the story?

According to reports from SPORT, the £27m-rated star is still undecided on where he wants to play football next season with Liverpool one of the options on the table after the club contacted his representatives.

With potential departures within their forward line this summer, including Sadio Mane, the club are looking to refresh their options and Dembele is one of the players they are interested in.

The Frenchman has had a turbulent time in Spain but still carries quality and on a free transfer, it would be hard to turn down.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

He could be the perfect replacement for Mane

The future of one of Liverpool’s star forwards Sadio Mane is in doubt. It was recently reported that the Senegalese international is close to agreeing [on] a three-year contract with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Having won everything during his time on Merseyside, it looks like Mane now fancies a new challenge, and Liverpool will have a job on their hands to replace him.

Due to his contract running down, if he does leave it’s likely the club won’t receive much money, with a fee as small as £25m reported.

This would be one reason why Dembele would make a perfect replacement, no transfer fee would be involved so it would make sense for The Reds to go down this route.

The 25-year-old has made 21 La Liga appearances this season and registered an impressive 13 assists during that time. It ranks him in the top 1% for assists this season compared to others in his position playing in Europe’s top five leagues.

Liverpool’s strikers would be spoilt for chances if they had Dembele playing for them. He’s been described as a “phenomenon” by his ex-teammate Lionel Messi.

When you compare him directly to Mane he comes out on top in many areas. He’s made 10 more key passes across this season and has a a higher number of goal creating actions.

Dembele is also good defensively, proving that he’s a hard worker which will be a big plus for Klopp. He’s tackled a higher percentage of dribblers than Mane this season at 35% compared to 32%.

If any manager can get the best out of him it’s Klopp, moving to Liverpool could reignite his career.
