Acabou! Flamengo anuncia a saída do técnico Zé Ricardo

– Respeito sempre a torcida.

Sempre tive confiança no meu trabalho.

CSA confident Botha will be cleared

South Africa have included their vice-captain Johan Botha in their 15-man squad for the World Twenty20 beginning on June 5 in England and are confident he will be eligible to play after the offspinner was reported for a suspect action.Botha was reported for a suspected illegal bowling action by match officials after the fourth ODI against Australia in Port Elizabeth in April. He will undergo a bio-mechanical assessment of his action, but is eligible to play international cricket at the discretion of Cricket South Africa (CSA) while the test results are pending.”He hasn’t been cleared yet but we are confident and positive that he will be,” Gerald Majola, chief executive of CSA, told Cricinfo. “Of course, if he is not cleared, we will have to ask for a replacement.”Bruce Elliott, a professor with the University of Western Australia, had tested Botha last Thursday as per the revised ICC procedure. “We don’t have the results yet, but we hope to have some numbers by the end of the week.” Elliott told Cricinfo. There were no new faces in the squad which comprised players who enjoyed success against Australia over the summer. Yusuf Abdulla, who made his Twenty 20 debut against Australia in Centurion, was rewarded for his outstanding performances in the domestic tournament and for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL with a call-up. Abdulla is currently the IPL’s highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in seven matches.”Our cricket is entering an exciting period,” Mike Procter, South Africa’s chief selector said. “We are top of the ODI rankings but have never won a major trophy and this presents the opportunity to do so in a limited-overs format.”The players are all in good form and it is particularly pleasing to have so many quality all-rounders at our disposal. As always there are a couple of unlucky players and that emphasises the excellent competition we have for places. Form in the Standard Bank Pro20 domestic competition was a key factor in our selection process and it was encouraging to note how high the standard of our domestic cricket is at the moment.”South Africa coach Mickey Arthur was “delighted” with the squad. “It is a team with plenty of options – great depth to the batting and plenty of bowling options. It is also an outstanding fielding unit.”Squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Johan Botha (vice-capt), Yusuf Abdulla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Roelof van der Merwe.

Predicted Crystal Palace XI vs Arsenal

Crystal Palace will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to three games when they take on Arsenal in the Premier League this evening.

The Eagles have secured consecutive draws in recent weeks after showing some promising signs under new manager Patrick Vieira, and the French tactician will be hoping to maintain their good form at the Emirates Stadium.

Vieira confirmed that all of his players had returned from the latest international break fully fit, with key midfielder Eberechi Eze also closing in on a return to first-team action following a lengthy layoff.

Despite the positive start to the season, though, Palace have still only won one of their opening seven games, and the need to get some extra points on the board is growing with every passing week.

With that in mind, here’s how Football FanCast expects the 45-year-old to line up against the Gunners, with only one change from the side that earned a point against Leicester City last time out…

The virtually ever-present Vicente Guaita will keep his place between the sticks for the short trip from south to north London, keeping former English international Jack Butland on the bench as a result.

Ahead of the Spanish shot-stopper is set to be a back four that has started to show signs of becoming a cohesive unit in recent weeks.

Full-backs Tyrick Mitchell and Joel Ward will line up either side of summer signings Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen, and the Danish international will be looking to put a disappointing display against the Foxes behind him.

In midfield, a hard-working trio of Luka Mililvojevic, Conor Gallagher and James McArthur are expected to provide the drive and energy Palace will need to get a result against their more affluent rivals, with all three in good form of late.

Vieira’s toughest decisions over the starting XI will come in attack. While talisman Wilfried Zaha is guaranteed to feature from the off, there’s some doubt over the striker’s position and right-wing role.

Former Celtic ace Odsonne Edouard will be hoping to retain his place up front ahead of Christian Benteke, while Michael Olise will hoping his first goal of the season last time out is enough to relegate the £7.2m-rated Jordan Ayew to the Palace bench.

And, in other news…Vieira must unleash “fearless” £13.5m-rated Palace wizard, he could have a huge impact

Ange-ball is finally starting to bear fruit

While results under the new leadership of Ange Postecoglou were somewhat mixed in the early stages of the season – with Celtic being dumped out of Champions League qualifying in the second round, as well as losing three of their opening seven Scottish Premiership fixtures and both of their opening two Europa League group stage games – things are finally starting to look on the up for the 56-year-old at Parkhead.

Indeed, the Bhoys are now on a run of three straight victories in all competitions, a series of games that has seen the club secure their first and second domestic away wins of the season, as well as a crucial 2-0 victory over Ferencvarosi TC in the Europa League – a result which keeps Postecoglou’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition alive.

However, while results are ultimately the most important metric a manager is judged on, it is not only Celtic’s accumulation of points that has improved for Postecoglou in recent weeks, but also the implementation of the Greek-Australian’s much-fabled brand of football.

Upon his arrival at Celtic this summer, Postecoglou’s appointment promised Celtic fans a style of play that was possession-based, relentlessly high intensity and extremely attacking – and, while there was some evidence of this during the early stages of the season, with the Bhoys typically dominating possession of the ball, the results did not always follow.

Indeed, in the 2-1 defeat to Heart of Midlothian back in July, Celtic enjoyed a whopping 73% of the ball and completed 429 more passes than their opposition, however, despite this domination, Postecoglou’s side created just one big chance over the course of the 90 minutes – the same number Hearts managed.

It was a similar story in the 1-0 loss to Livingston, with the Bhoys having 79% possession and completing 497 more passes than the Lions, although this time the Hoops failed to create even one big chance in the match.

However, the tide has certainly turned during the last three fixtures, with Celtic enjoying 61% possession, creating four big chances and completing 217 more passes than Aberdeen in the 2-1 win. They then boasted 73% of the ball, created one big chance and completed 443 more passes against Motherwell in the 2-0 victory, and had 67% possession, created seven big chances and succeeded with 371 more passes than Ferencvarosi in the 2-0 win.

And, while FBref does not track data for Scottish Premiership fixtures, there is a clue in the Bhoys’ Europa League win as to how Postecoglou has managed to improve his side’s creativity.

Indeed, when looking at Celtic’s pressing in the early stages of the season, the Hoops often applied pressure to opposition players in their defensive and middle thirds a greater number of times than in their attacking third – something that is not surprising, as Postecoglou likes his side to apply pressure extremely high up the pitch.

However, against Ferencvarosi, it would appear as if the 56-year-old instructed his side to change tact somewhat, with Celtic registering the most pressing in their own defensive third – 23 pressures were made in the defensive third while 46 in the middle third and then 61 in attacking third. That’s something that would suggest the manager wanted to draw the Hungarian side out of shape by allowing them to have more of the ball, before springing a counter-attack to catch them on the break.

And, considering both the result and display on Tuesday afternoon was arguably Celtic’s most impressive of the season, perhaps this is something we will more of from the Hoops in the coming weeks – as, with the Bhoys creating seven big chances against Ferencvarosi, it is certainly a tactic that appeared to work.

Raina gem inspires Chennai to victory

In a demonstration of power-hitting with which he carried Chennai Super Kings in the first IPL, Suresh Raina again showed his ability to dominate and, when the need arose, get out of a jam

In a demonstration of power-hitting with which he carried Chennai Super Kings in the first IPL, Suresh Raina again showed his ability to dominate and, when the need arose, get out of a jam. Chennai were in early trouble after being put in to bat but the early loss of the openers to Shane Warne’s introduction of spin didn’t deter Raina, who dispatched the Rajasthan Royals attack to all parts of SuperSport Park. His one-man show was complemented by a disciplined and enthusiastic fielding display – including a wicket and two catches to the man of the moment – and Chennai wrapped up victory by 38 runs. The spade work for victory had been done with a gem from Raina. His blazing innings started and ended in the face of adversary but it didn’t show on his face or in his choice of shots. Chennai had lost their leading run-scorer, Matthew Hayden, and Parthiv Patel to loose shots against Yusuf Pathan, who opened the attack with Dimitri Mascarenhas. But after that edgy start Chennai were put back on track through a 67-run liaison between Raina and S Badrinath. Raina was due a good score and he decided attack was the best way of defence. He took the initiative early on, taking Mascarenhas for four and six and then clubbing Yusuf over long-off for six more. Badrinath was promoted ahead of MS Dhoni, Jacob Oram and Albie Morkel with Chennai in trouble and he reciprocated with a smart cameo of 29. He relieved the pressure with three off-side boundaries and hit Yusuf out of the attack. Badri’s inventiveness – making room, getting the wrists into play, lofting over the infield – allowed Raina to continue blazing and he carved a brilliant front-foot six over point off Munaf Patel’s first delivery.Once he found his tempo, Raina was unstoppable. A deft tickle for four off Siddharth Trivedi was one for the purists, a thick inside-edge next ball for the same result just the bit of luck Raina needed to script an epic. He continued to produce punishing pulls and gorgeous shots down the ground, but the slice over cover-point was the sight of the evening. Shane Warne was pulled and cut for boundaries in his first over as Raina reached fifty from 27 balls.By now the mood in both camps had reversed. Rajasthan’s early momentum faded into repeated misfields that allowed boundaries, and where Chennai had been unsure with the bat at the start, Badrinath was uppercutting for four. There were risks, but they were calculated. The fifty-run partnership needed just 33 deliveries.Rajasthan took two wickets shortly after the break but with Dhoni giving him strike, Raina broke the shackles with consecutive boundaries in the 17th over. The run rate had now crossed seven and increased with consecutive sixes, both sliced over covers, in a 24-run 18th over during which Kamran Khan had to limp off with a twisted ankle. In the last over Raina raised his bat on 98, when the electronic scoreboard got it wrong after he slapped four past cover. Next ball was slashed up in the air and excellently taken by Graeme Smith at deep backward point. The only batsman to cross 30, Raina’s exemplary 98 off 55 balls lifted Chennai to a competitive total. That innings not only gave the crowd something to cheer about but also gave Chennai’s bowlers a solid platform to work with. A revamped new-ball attack of Morkel and Sudeep Tyagi kept it tidy and waited for errors, which came rather soon. Smith’s vigilance had played a big role in the last game but here he was impetuous, reaching out and guiding Morkel to point in the second over. Swapnil Asnodkar was another to fall going for a big shot, except that he swung his bat down onto his own stumps. As if his innings wasn’t torture enough for Rajasthan, Raina starred with the ball. Rob Quiney was given a life when Dhoni fluffed a stumping, but the bowler had his revenge when he beat bat with a slider.Yusuf came out blazing but failed to convert, lofting L Balaji down to long-off where the man who could do no wrong took the catch. Dhoni held back on using Balaji till the 11th over and the bowler immediately made an impact, not allowing any room. When Ravindra Jadeja skied Balaji miles into the starry night and Hayden settled under a steepler, the candle had gone out. The rest was a formality as Balaji took four, a solid comeback after a poor last match. It was apt that the last wicket, a massive top edge, should land in Raina’s hands. His grip remained firm from start to finish.

No segundo tempo, as equipes voltaram determinadas a abrir o placar. As jogadas, porém, continuavam as mesmas. Finalizações no gol? Nenhuma.

New Zealand aim to avoid banana-skin

This should be little more than a training run for New Zealand, who open their campaign against a struggling Scotland

Big PictureThe sides have been playing warm-up matches for the past week and realistically this should be little more than another training run for New Zealand. Scotland have never beaten a Test-playing nation in either an ODI or a Twenty20 international and that is unlikely to change at this tournament, if their recent form is any indication. They nearly lost their ODI status in the World Cup Qualifiers, failed to beat Netherlands in a warm-up and then lost one of their most experienced fast men, John Blain, after he had a serious argument with the captain Gavin Hamilton. The only positive was a competitive, though ultimately fruitless, showing in their practice match against England. For New Zealand the result should be a formality. They have a strong batting line-up based around Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor, and have a good chance of featuring in the final stages of the tournament. However, their coach Andy Moles is wary and said the Scotland game could be “a potential banana-skin”.Form guide (last five Twenty20s, most recent first)New Zealand WWLWT

Watch out forBrendon McCullum launched last year’s IPL with a spectacular 158 not out and against a relatively weak attack he could light up the opening stages of this event. His IPL form this year was patchy with flashes of his best and the other teams won’t thank Scotland if they bowl him back into touch.Comfortably Scotland’s best batsman, Gavin Hamilton has taken over the captaincy and will be keen to lead by example.
