– Eu tinha poucos seguidores no Instagram.

Vlasic’s struggles continue as West Ham win

West Ham United recorded another impressive victory in the Europa League on Thursday night as they extended their 100% record in Group H but it wasn’t plain sailing for everybody.

Nikola Vlasic’s struggles in east London continued after he was handed his third start for the Irons since sealing a €30m (£26.7m) move from CSKA Moscow in the summer.

If he’s the man that David Moyes wants to fill the void left behind by last season’s loan sensation Jesse Lingard, then he’ll be concerned with what he’s seen so far.

After an underwhelming debut against Dinamo Zagreb in his native Croatia, the 23-year-old former Everton flop failed to look the part again this week, despite the Irons keeping up their fine form in 2021/22.

The £27m-rated dynamo was the only West Ham starter to be graded below a 7.0 for his performance against Austrian outfit Rapid Wien at the London Stadium, as per SofaScore. In fact, his 6.5 rating was the second-worst of any of the 15 players to see the pitch for Moyes.

It was a game in which the Croatian playmaker should have asserted his dominance and quality in the final third, but him being withdrawn after just an hour tells you everything you need to know.

Vlasic recorded just 25 touches, which was the lowest of any starter and was fewer than even substitute Jarrod Bowen (28) and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (28).

By comparison, players like Aaron Cresswell (96) and Declan Rice (65) were heavily involved, and as a no.10, these are the sorts of returns he should be getting.

The 5 foot 10 dynamo, who reportedly earns around £100k-per-week, also managed only nine accurate passes, which was actually the fewest of any starter involved on either team – and that’s hugely worrying.

Vlasic was weak in his battles, too, managing to win just 40% of his ten duels, whilst he was also dribbled past three times, as per SofaScore.

According to football.london’s Tom Clark, the summer arrival “did not bring a huge amount to the party’, whilst the Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser claimed: ‘Not really happening for him in a West Ham shirt so far. Gets into nice positions but doesn’t do enough once there. Needs time.’

Lingard provided nine goals and five assists in just 16 appearances, via Transfermarkt, so Vlasic has a whole lot of work to do to even match half of these returns.

It was another disappointing outing from a player in whom the Irons have invested nearly £30m, and Moyes must surely be worried by these performances.

AND in other news, Forget Rice: £50k-p/w West Ham beast who had 96 touches was Moyes’ unsung hero vs Wien…

Bopara's abundant class

A week ago Ravi Bopara was in the sleepy city of Christchurch, but the world is a small place these days. Now he is England’s Test No. 6 and is going to take some shifting. A 41-hour journey through six time zones culminated in his maiden Test hundred as England declared on 600 for 6. It has all been worth it now.The calm acknowledgement of his century was not someone feeling huge amounts of pressure and he was even relaxed enough to unveil a Usain Bolt celebration. He was also able to shake of a nasty blow from Fidel Edwards, who struck him on the grill during a rapid burst that was enthralling to watch. It was a proper Test match initiation.”I felt as though I was a little early on it and it went straight into the grill, jarring it into the cheek,” Bopara said, while sporting a pair of sunglasses to hide the growing black eye. “I wouldn’t say it affected me, I think it’s one of those things you accept as a batter.”You are going to get hit now and then especially in Test cricket when you have someone bowling around 90mph,” he added. “I think [you] have to expect it. I felt as if they were going to come at me hard, they were chirping and all sorts of things but that’s part of Test cricket and it is good fun. That was one of quickest spells I’ve faced.”When he walked off with 104 to his name the contrast couldn’t have been starker from the last time left a Test field. It was the third Test against Sri Lanka, at Galle, in December 2007 and he had just been run out from slip by Mahela Jayawardene to complete a depressing pair and a miserable first series. He had actually collected three consecutive ducks and ended with 42 runs in five innings. In hindsight it was a promotion that came too early but, in similar circumstances to his recall here, England were trying to fill the hole left by Andrew Flintoff being injured. This time he passed that series tally in 60 balls and reached his hundred off 140 deliveries with an ease that suggested he done it many times before. “There were all those feelings you have as a youngster growing up about what it would feel like,” he said. “As a kid you dream of doing it at Lord’s, but I’ll take it any time.”Caveats do apply; West Indies’ bowling (Edwards apart) verged on awful at times, the fielding was slack and the pitch very flat. England face a huge task to take 20 wickets. He was also offered a life on 4 when Jerome Taylor spilled a chance at deep square-leg. But all Bopara could do was grasp his reprieve and make hay in the sunshine. He proceeded to show the sort of stroke play that lit up county cricket last season.Bopara was becoming a slightly tricky cricketer to work out. The abundant talent was clear right from his World Cup innings against Sri Lanka when he almost led England to victory, but it had yet to be translated into significant results. At times he’d looked a confused player, not surprising when you consider that in one-day cricket he has been tried in nearly every batting position. But anyone who can score a double hundred in 50-over cricket was always going toreturn, although his chance has come a little sooner than expected. That could have been a helping hand for Bopara. Coming in as a replacement can often mean expectations are lower.”I didn’t expect to play, I just came here thinking I’d be the spare batter and I never thought I’d get in,” he said. “I’ve tried to be patient first and not thought that I what to get back prove everyone wrong. I told myself to be patient, earn your chance by scoring runs for Essex and when you get it take it, but don’t worry about it too much and build it up too much before you get there.”This was another innings that showed how much luck and how much judgement goes into selecting a side. If England had a full strength squad out here neither Bopara or Tim Ambrose, who together added a rollicking 113 in 21 overs for the sixth wicket, would have played. Instead Flintoff is ruled out of the rest of the series and Matt Prior is already back on home soil visiting his new baby. If Prior was watching the sixth-wicket stand rather than being knee-deep in nappies he may have been sitting a little uneasily. As Flintoff boards his plane home tonight he may think that a few of Bopara’s runs are his. But Bopara looked classier in this one innings than Flintoff has managed in years. There was an elegance, touch and timing that Flintoff has never managed. Flintoff has always believed he is a Test number six, yet apart from one glorious 18 months he has never convinced. These are still early days for Bopara, but it was only a matter of when, and not if, he would show his class. What a difference a week makes.

-Olha aqui (mostrando as marcas).

Celtic: Southampton want Furuhashi

An update has emerged on Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi, regarding his future at Parkhead.

What’s the talk?

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the Hoops could be in danger of losing Furuhashi with Southampton eyeing up a potential swoop.

The Japan international joined the Hoops from Vissel Kobe in the summer and is now said to be attracting interest from elsewhere after an impressive start to life in Scotland.

Van Dijk 2.0

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could be set to repeat a mistake made by his predecessors at the club with this interest from Southampton in Furuhashi.

The fans would surely be fuming if one of the club’s best players is sold within months of him arriving in Scotland if the Saints attempt to land him in the January transfer window.

Supporters will also remember what happened one of the last times Celtic sold one of their stars to the south coast. Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk left to join the Saints for £13m in the summer of 2015 before going on to sign for Liverpool for £75m less than three years later.

This suggests that the Hoops could have secured more money for his services had they managed to keep hold of him for another year or two. Southampton made a gigantic profit on the defender, whilst Celtic had to watch on from afar as he became the world’s most expensive centre-back in 2019.

Postecoglou must now avoid a similar nightmare scenario with Kyogo in the next window. He has had a sublime start to his career at Celtic and quickly established himself as a key player, with eight goals and one assist in 11 matches to date.

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson hailed him earlier this season and claimed he could aid their title challenge. He told The Sunday Post [05/09 print edition, via 67HailHail]:

“There is no doubt Celtic have landed someone quite special in Kyogo. His movement is outstanding.

“It was a pity he couldn’t get more involved against Rangers, but when he moved into the central role, he was an absolute menace to their defence.

“Having him gives Celtic a real chance of winning the league this season.

This highlights the immediate impact he has had on the side since his arrival in the summer. It also illustrates why supporters will be fuming if he is sold to Southampton in January, particularly if it is a similar fee to the £14m they received for van Dijk. It could be another horror show for Celtic where they watch him move on from St. Mary’s for five or six times more money later down the line.

Therefore, Postecoglou must plead with the board to keep hold of the forward in the upcoming transfer window in order to maintain the strength of his squad and avoid a repeat van Dijk situation.

AND in other news, Celtic flop has seen his value drop by £7.29m in two years, his career is at risk…

The England fast bowler Jenny Gunn’s bowling action has been deemed legal after an investigation by a specialist ICC panel.Gunn, who plays for Western Australia, was suspended from bowling in domestic cricket in February mere days before the Women’s World Cup got underway owing to an “illegal bowling action”. Ten days later, she was reported to the ICC by Gerard Abood and Kathy Cross, the umpires for the World Cup match between England and Sri Lanka, who said they had concerns over Gunn’s short-pitched deliveries. Now, however, her action has been cleared by the ICC’s Dr Mark King, part of the board’s panel of Human Movement Specialists.”The recordings are consistent with the rear view recordings (from both March 2009 and April 2007) which clearly shows that Miss Gunn’s bowling arm goes from a near straight position when the upper arm is horizontal into extreme hyperextension and then back to a near straight position around the time of ball release,” said King.”The unusual amount of hyperextension and abduction may well create the illusion that Ms Gunn throws but that is not the reality. Her action complies with ICC regulations and the laws of cricket.”

Pundit discusses Moyes’ Fabianski call

Paul Robinson has questioned David Moyes’ rumoured decision to drop Lukasz Fabianski for West Ham United’s next match.

The Lowdown: Hammers have alternative option

Fabianski is currently the Hammers’ clear number one – he has started all seven matches in the Premier League this term, while he played 35 times in the league last season (Transfermarkt).

However, as per The Athletic, the former Poland international could be replaced by Alphonse Areola for this weekend’s clash against Everton.

The Latest: Robinson questions decision

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson, 41, who of course has plenty of experience between the sticks in the top flight, questioned Moyes’ decision:

“Really? That would be very harsh on Fabianski.

“He is a goalkeeper that has really developed in his latter years. He has turned into a really good goalkeeper. I have to be honest, when he was at Arsenal I did not rate him.

“If he was taken out of the West Ham team now I would be surprised. I can’t remember any glaring errors he has made. I think he has done quite well this year.

“Moyes realised he needed strength and back-up in that area in the summer. That is why he brought in Areola.

“I really rate Areola. I think he’s a top class goalkeeper.”

The Verdict: Harsh

As Robinson says, this decision does seem to be a little harsh. Bar some injuries, Fabianski has been solid ever since he made the move to London from Swansea City, and he was integral part of the side that finished sixth in the Premier League last time out as the Irons qualified for the Europa League.

Moyes also called him “excellent” just earlier this year (via The Irish Independent).

Areola could be a future number one for West Ham. After all, he is just 28 years of age and Fabianski is by far his senior. Slowly but surely introducing Areola to the fold more regularly may be the right way forward, starting by continuing with the Frenchman on Thursday nights.

In other news, West Ham have been joined by a Premier League club as they aim to sign this striker.

Beaton century drives Australia

Tom Beaton’s captain’s innings of 106 helped Australia Under-19 claim the opening day honours in the first three-day match against India Under-19 at the Bellerive Oval. Beaton was supported by half-centuries from Tim Armstrong and Sean Abbott and at the end of 90 overs, Australia had piled on 7 for 306. The Indian openers then added 18 before stumps.Australia didn’t get off to the best of starts after winning the toss when they lost their top three with the score on 69. Armstrong and Beaton added 101 for the fourth wicket as the hosts held the initiative for the majority of the post-lunch session. However, the innings suffered a wobble in the half hour before tea when Armstrong, Tom Triffitt and Kane Richardson fell for the addition of only 17 runs.Beaton held firm and continued his good form from the second one-dayer where he scored a half-century. He brought up his century in style with a six over square leg. His 159-ball knock included ten fours and two sixes. After he was dismissed, caught and bowled by Ashok Meenaria, Abbott (51*) and Jackson Coleman (31*) pushed the score past 300. For India, Jaydev Unadkad and Mannan Sharma took two wickets apiece.”It was good to get a few and felt awesome to be out there and especially the way it came up (with a six), I wasn’t expecting that with everyone in the ring,” Beaton was quoted as saying in the Cricket Australia website. “Wickets fell a bit early so I just had to adjust and play a more mature role and work the ones and get the scoreboard ticking over.””We’ll get the two opening bowlers back on tomorrow morning and get them bowling nice and full and try to get them nicking and hopefully we will get a few easy wickets and make it a bit easier for Doors [Luke Doran]. We’ll definitely be looking to get them out as early as possible and then go back out there and have another hit at some stage.”

Vingança? Santos vira no fim e vence o Flamengo no Pacaembu
