Cleber teve problemas no quadril.

Celtic: Kevin Phillips reacts to Jed Wallace interest

Football Insider pundit Kevin Phillips has been reacting to Celtic and Rangers’ reported interest in Millwall star Jed Wallace.

The Lowdown: Wallace links

Football League World shared a report regarding Wallace just a day after Dominic McKay left his position as Celtic CEO.

They claimed that a number of English clubs, as well as Celtic and Rangers, were all interested in securing Wallace’s services.

The 27-year-old is out of contract next summer and has already been involved in six Championship goals in eight appearances this season.

The Latest: Phillips reacts

Phillips was asked by Football Insider if right-midfielder Wallace would be a good signing for either Celtic or Rangers.

The former forward labelled Wallace as a ‘top’ player and backed him to ‘shine’ if he moved to Scotland.

“Wallace has been a top player for Millwall over the past few years. He has proved to be a good signing for them.

“I think he would shine if he went up there. He has all of the attributes to move up to Scotland, settle in quickly and do really well.”

However, the 48-year-old then went on to name-check Rangers ahead of Celtic, labelling a possible free transfer as a no-brainer.

“We know he possesses a lot of quality so if he goes up to Rangers, which I can see happening, Steven Gerrard will be getting a player who can slot into that squad quickly.

“On a free it really would be a no-brainer.”

The Verdict: January battle?

Both Glasgow sides could hold an advantage over interested English clubs due to cross border rules.

Should Wallace’s situation remain the same, both the Hoops and the Gers would be able to discuss pre-contract terms with the Englishman in the New Year, something clubs down south wouldn’t be able to do.

On that basis, a winter window battle between Celtic and Rangers could be on the cards.

Hadlee rallies New Zealand for Australia ODIs

Richard Hadlee, the legendary New Zealand allrounder and current chairman of selectors, has a simple message for the team heading to Australia for the Chappell-Hadlee Series – fight them in the trenches and aim to be a hero

Richard Hadlee, the legendary New Zealand allrounder and current chairman of selectors, has a simple message for the team heading to Australia for the Chappell-Hadlee Series – fight them in the trenches and aim to be a hero.Hadlee considers the 14-man squad to be one of the most inexperienced New Zealand sides, but with Australia in a rebuilding phase he refused to regard the tour as a lost cause. He said the key was for New Zealand to “front up” to the Australians, starting with the first of the five-match encounter in Perth on Sunday.”It’s a huge and daunting challenge, but you have to approach it the same way as in the past, you have to take them on,” he told the . “They are going to try and dominate you with a physical and verbal presence as they have done historically.”You can’t afford to be intimidated. Sure, you are playing them in their backyard so it makes it harder, but it’s the same old message you have to front up, you have to want to be there, you have to want to execute your skills and be a hero.”The team has a lot of new faces – 19-year-old left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult, Central Districts allrounder Brendon Diamanti, the new batting pair of Martin Guptill and Neil Broom – as well as the likes of Iain O’Brien, who has played a solitary ODI, and Grant Elliott, who has played just 11. Hadlee said the challenge for the ODI rookies was to take the opportunity and play with pride, and possibly in the process, earn themselves a professional contract in the Twenty20 competitions in India.”The opportunity of playing for your country, on live TV going around the world, if you perform, there are all sorts of opportunities with the IPL and the ICL so you don’t want to bugger it up,” Hadlee said.He singled out Boult for praise, and believed that New Zealand had a potential match-winner in him. “He looks good, technically he looks tidy, but it is a huge call at his age,” he said. Hadlee also highlighted the importance of New Zealand getting off to a safe, yet lively, start through their opening pair of Jesse Ryder and Brendon McCullum and the tactical use of the Powerplays.”Australia are still No. 1 in the world and the team to beat, but it’s a different look Aussie team who have struggled against South Africa, so it might be more interesting than a lot of people think.”Australia beat New Zealand 2-0 in the Test series late last year, and also won the Chappell-Hadlee Series in December 2007 2-0. Hadlee refused to read much into the results of Australia’s Test and ODI losses to South Africa at home. “Australia’s firepower is greater than ours, [Shaun] Tait is a match-breaker for them when he gets it right,” he said. “He is bowling well, he is going for a few, but he looks likely. We don’t have that strikepower but we have some useful bowlers so they’ve just got to be deadly accurate in their execution and have some damn good change-ups. We always need to be a step ahead of them.”

Pundit highlights current West Brom ‘problem’

Valerien Ismael hasn’t yet found his best line-up at West Brom, according to Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell, speaking to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Baggies lose form

The Baggies made a flying start to their Championship season, picking up 13 points from their opening five matches and looking every bit title hopefuls.

West Brom’s form has stalled in recent weeks, however, with three draws in a row against Millwall, Derby County and Preston proving to be frustrating.

The Latest: Campbell concerned over ‘problem’

Admittedly, Ismael’s side are still third the table, but speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal and Everton striker Campbell claimed a lack of a fixed starting lineup is proving to be problematic:

“Here is the crazy thing about football. The likes of [Jordan] Hugill, [Callum] Robinson, [Karlan] Grant, and [Matt] Phillips they are all good players but it is about finding the right balance. That is the key now for Ismael and this West Brom side.

“You can have the embarrassment of riches but it is about finding the right balance. Ismael needs to work out his best team and he needs to do it quickly.

“From mid-October onwards you need to know and be playing your best team. You have got to know your best team and I think the problem is, Ismael still does not know what his best team is now.”

The Verdict: He makes a good point

Campbell is correct in his assessment, with too many changes being made by Ismael and a lack of rhythm on show because of it.

Granted, it is important to rotate throughout the season, in order to retain freshness in the players, but it is difficult to know what West Brom’s best team is currently.

The hope is that that will change in the coming weeks, starting with Friday night’s visit of QPR, which could be a test of their promotion credentials given the R’s will be full of confidence after their Carabao Cup victory against Premier League Everton.
