Just a few days after he suffered the wrath of Sheffield Wednesday fans for his performance against Birmingham, Steven Fletcher well and truly silenced the doubters with an important brace on Saturday afternoon.

The Scotland international opened the scoring against Charlton in their Championship clash, before scoring a penalty in the 80th minute to restore the Owls’ lead after an equaliser from Macauley Bonne.

Atdhe Nuhiu wrapped up the points with a third, but the man on everybody’s lips was undoubtedly Fletcher. As per Sofascore, his 8.7 match rating was the highest of any player on the pitch, whilst he also showed he is more than just a goal-scorer with two key passes too.

And after seeing his fine display, Wednesday fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts about the striker.

Many supporters hailed the veteran for his goal-scoring efforts, with one fan in particular labelling his first goal as “pure class”.

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has claimed he may struggle to field an 11 against Luton Town, as reported by the club’s official website.

What did he say?

The Addicks didn’t even fill their bench for the 2-2 draw against Cardiff City due to the injury crisis they are enduring, as they only had six.

With that considered, the last thing Bowyer needed was for another of his players to pick up an injury during the game, that was to be the case though, as Josh Cullen was stretchered off in the 56th minute.

When asked about the Republic of Ireland international’s injury, Bowyer was quoted on Charlton’s official website as saying: “Not good, especially with Tuesday coming up. I was just saying to the staff that we’re going to struggle to put 11 out. We’re just running out of numbers.

“You see the kids we had to bring on and they did great by the way, but to bring them on is asking a lot from them because they haven’t played games before.

“Especially Alfie, Alfie’s come on and he’s never played a game for us, not even when we were in League One. So to then just throw him in against a good Cardiff side… but we have no choice. That’s the situation we’re in, but like I said before, we’re in every game and it shows how well we’re doing and what a good group I have.”

Growing concerns

The amount of injuries that Charlton are picking up is becoming a real concern, as Bowyer’s selection options are becoming seriously limited.

He will be boosted by the return of Darren Pratley, who was suspended for the Cardiff match, but that doesn’t change the fact that various players will still be unavailable.

Lyle Taylor had been deemed “touch and go” for Saturday’s match, so there will be hope that the striker can make it for the Luton match despite having previously missed out.

Four of the players on the bench for the Cardiff clash were aged 20 years old or younger, but if this lack of luck continues that number could grow further.

In other news, Charlton have identified a January transfer target to help ease the burden.

يُزعم التقرير أن سانت إيتيان يخطط لتقديم عرض حتى لو فعّل جالطة سراي خيار الشراء، ومارسيليا أيضًا يسعى للتفاوض.

وأتم التقرير موضحًا أن مارسيليا سيقدم عرضًا قيمته 20 مليون يورو.

Jurgen Klopp has already written himself into Liverpool folklore.

Last season’s Champions League victory made the former Borussia Dortmund manager just the fourth manager in the club’s history to lead them to the continent’s summit, and the 97 points he picked up in the Premier League last time out almost clinched their first top-flight title since 1990. If the Reds do prevail in the top tier this term – it looks pretty good at the moment as they lead the way – then he will become a bona fide Anfield legend.

During his four years at the club so far, he has made some fantastic signings. The likes of Alisson, Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk helped the Merseyside outfit concede just 22 goals in the league last season, the least in the division, whilst the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have scored plenty of goals at the other end – they were joint-winners of the Premier League’s Golden Boot last season, along with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Across that period, 28 players have left the club to move elsewhere, either on free transfers or cash fees. It is a true testament to Klopp’s ability as a manager when you look at the careers of those players who have left. For example, observe Philippe Coutinho. The Brazil international pushed for a move to Barcelona in 2017, and eventually went to the Camp Nou in January 2018 for £106m. Howevever, after just 18 months and 76 appearances, he was shipped out to Bayern Munich on loan after even being booed by some of the Catalan outfit’s supporters. His stock has certainly not gone up.

Jordon Ibe and Dominic Solanke are at the other end of the spectrum. Both were failing to receive regular starts at Anfield, and were sold to Bournemouth during separate transfer windows. For £326.32m, Klopp has managed to make a fortune from players who have, for the most part, nose-dived since leaving Merseyside. His genius, it seems, knows no bounds.

وأكمل: “يؤلمني ألا أكون قادرًا على مساعدة فريقي أكثر وعدم الدفاع عن المنتخب الإسباني، لكن في هذه الحالة، من الأفضل أن أرتاح وأتعافى تمامًا”.

Southampton’s out-on-loan centre-back Wesley Hoedt has fared inconsistently since signing for Royal Antwerp on a season-long loan deal back in the summer.

The 6-cap Netherlands international has made 14 appearances for the Belgian side this term, but has kept a clean sheet in just one of those games.

That isn’t to say that Hoedt has been solely responsible for such a terrible record of shutouts, but if his last outing is anything to go by, the former Lazio man – who cost Southampton £15m – really isn’t having a good time out on loan at all.

The 25-year-old was involved in a thrilling Belgian Cup tie against Genk on Tuesday evening, in which both sides scored three goals each before the game went to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

Hoedt – who was described as “impressively driven” by the Southampton official website during a feature interview – scored an own goal in the 81st minute when it looked like his side would see out their 2-1 lead.

“It’s rare to hear a team sportsman accept such personal responsibility, but Hoedt is impressively driven to improve himself as well as Saints.”

So, having cost his side the win in normal time with just eight minutes remaining, Hoedt was forced to try and make amends in extra-time.

Unfortunately, he could not, and the cup affair went to penalties as aforesaid.

After having such a wobbly moment in the final ten minutes of normal time, you wouldn’t have expected Hoedt to pick the ball up and take a penalty himself, but that’s exactly what the Dutchman did – perhaps in a belated effort to make amends for his own goal.

However, the situation went from bad to worse for Hoedt.

The Southampton outcast missed his kick from 12 yards, and Genk went on to win the tie after scoring four penalties to Antwerp’s three.

Hopefully, for the sake of Hoedt’s own confidence and consistency, he can do something significant to help his side in the next game, or the pressure may soon begin to mount on the £15m man.

وأنهى تصريحاته قائلًا: “لقد عانينا كثيرًا أمامهم وخاصةً في الشوط الأول، ولكننا أردنا ورغبنا في الحصول على هذه الكأس، وقدمنا كل ما لدينا في المباراة”.

Atacante do atlético acredita em goleada

Um dos astros do Atlético de Madrid, Julián Alvarez rasgou destacou a dificuldade da partida, mas acredita que o time colchonero conseguirá a classificação.

– O Botafogo é uma equipe de muita qualidade, com grandes jogadores. Uma equipe forte defensivamente, demonstrou isso no Brasil, onde foi campeã de coisas importantes. Acredito que podemos (tirar a vantagem do Botafogo). Já demonstramos em muitos jogos nessa temporada – disse o jogador do Atlético de Madrid, em entrevista neste sábado (21).

Newcastle United fans don’t particularly like former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys, and his latest comments have only riled them up even more.

Last month, the BeIN Sports anchor revealed that he wished it were a different Premier League outfit getting taken over by a wealthy Saudi Arabian consortium, which in itself caused anger.

And now Keys has claimed that he expects the takeover to get the ‘nod of approval’ this week before wishing the northeast side ‘good luck’.

It appears as if Newcastle’s takeover will edge closer this week with the Saudi-backed consortium, fronted by Amanda Staveley, agreeing to a deal worth approximately £300m, according to the BBC.
