Monchi sends fresh scouts as Aston Villa race to sign "special" 11-goal ace

Already preparing for the summer transfer window, Aston Villa sporting director Monchi reportedly sent scouts to watch one of his attacking targets in action last weekend.

Aston Villa's Turkish recruitment mission revealed

The Villans rarely seem to get things wrong in the transfer market these days, for the large part, they’ve got Monchi to thank for that. Their sporting director particularly excelled in the January window, welcoming both Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford online whilst also signing Donyell Malen on a permanent deal from Borussia Dortmund.

They could land an absolute bargain…

ByTom Cunningham Apr 1, 2025

Unai Emery’s side have only benefitted from that recruitment ever since too. As things stand, they’ve still got both the Champions League and FA Cup to play for and are set to battle until the very last to secure qualification for Europe’s elite competition next season. But Monchi isn’t resting there.

The likes of Dusan Vlahovic have already made the headlines regarding a potential summer switch to Villa Park and those in the Midlands certainly have the ambition to make such a move happen. Given that the Juventus star is also worth just £33m this summer, it wouldn’t be absurd to suggest that Monchi could land a bargain deal, either.

Away from the Serie A star, meanwhile, the Villans have reportedly set their sights on another attacking target. According to The Boot Room, Monchi sent fresh scouts to watch Baris Alper Yilmaz last weekend as his Galatasaray side squared off against Besiktas in one of the biggest games that Turkish football has to offer.

Ultimately, Yilmaz ended the day on the losing side as Besiktas handed Galatasaray their first league defeat of the season, but that may not be enough to dissuade Villa from making their move this summer.

Despite a game to forget, the 24-year-old has still managed 11 goals in all competitions this season to attract the interest of Villa, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.

"Special" Yilmaz could replace Rashford

Whilst Rashford’s loan spell has so far been a great success, it still remains just that and it remains to be seen whether Villa will trigger their option to secure his signature on a permanent basis this summer. Instead, they could turn their attention towards the younger Yilmaz, who could prove to be just as successful under Emery.

Praised throughout his time in Turkey’s top flight, former coach Ilker Puren told reporters when asked about Yilmaz: “I think Baris Alper Yılmaz can play very comfortably for many teams in the Premier League at the moment. He’s a very special player.

Galatasaray'sBarisAlperYilmazand Ismail Jakobs celebrate after Victor Osimhen scores their third goal

“We worked a lot together. If Barıs Alper improves himself with his final ball, he can easily play for the best clubs in the world such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal.”

In the last eight of the Champions League, Villa have been among those top clubs this season and could now make a statement by signing Yilmaz when the summer arrives.

He wasn’t at his best as Galatasaray lost last weekend – recording just 0.10 expected goals and 0.06 expected assists – but Yilmaz is undoubtedly a player to watch in the coming months as Villa prepare their move.

Sky Sports: Man Utd now in contact over deal for "incredible" £26m striker

Manchester United have now made contact over a deal for an “incredible” striker, who would be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Patrick Berger.

Man Utd pursuing new striker for Amorim

Man United suffered yet another setback in their last Premier League outing, suffering a 4-1 defeat away at Newcastle United to remain 14th in the table with just six games left to play, and they were very poor at both ends of the pitch.

Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund both squandered one big chance at St. James’ Park, which once again underlined the need for Ruben Amorim to bring in a new striker this summer, and several targets have now been identified.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is believed to be chief among them, with the Englishman set to be available for just £30m this summer, given that his side are almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League.

ByDominic Lund Apr 15, 2025

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike are also on the shortlist, with the Red Devils considering options from abroad, and another Bundesliga striker has also recently entered the frame.

According to an update from Sky Sports reporter Berger on X, Man United have now made initial contact over a deal for Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick, although the move is still in the early stages, with nothing concrete so far.

Bayer Leverkusen's PatrikSchickreacts

Leverkusen would be looking to receive €25m – €30m (£21m – £26m) for Schick, making him an affordable option for United, and there are some signs he would be keen on the move, given that the Premier League is said to be his “preferred destination”.

Ideally, Amorim would be looking to bring in a younger striker, but the 29-year-old is viewed as an “interesting” option.

Schick enjoying another impressive Bundesliga campaign

The Czech striker has spent the majority of his career in Germany, chalking up 70 goals and 13 assists in 138 Bundesliga outings, and the current campaign is on course to be one of his most prolific to date.

With 17 league goals to his name, there are clear signs the Leverkusen star is now entering his prime, and he has averaged a remarkable 0.87 non-penalty goals per 90 over the past year, placing him in the top 1% of all strikers in a top five European league.

Not only that, but the forward has been lauded as “incredible” by members of the media in the past, indicating that he could be a real upgrade on Hojlund and Zirkzee, who have fallen way below expectations this season.

That said, it would be a gamble to sign Schick, given that he is unproven in the Premier League, and Delap should remain United’s top striker target.

Norwegian minnows and 2025’s fairy-tale underdogs, Bodo/Glimt, await them in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday, and a highly-anticipated victory would go a long way in sealing Spurs’ first European final since 2019.

Tottenham could face Athletic Bilbao, spearheaded by in-demand Spain sensation Nico Williams, or Premier League rivals Man United in the final, provided they get past Bodo/Glimt.

The Scandinavians cannot be underestimated, and they knocked Serie A giants Lazio out in the last round, but Spurs have more than enough quality on paper to get the job done.

Bodo/Glimt head coach Kjetil Knutsen.

However, even if the Lilywhites do go on to win the Europa League and make history by doing so, Postecoglou could still part ways with Tottenham this summer – leading to a host of different managers being linked with the job.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are also facing a difficult summer transfer window, with the prospect of a ‘sell to buy’ strategy looming amid rumoured outside interest in the likes of Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro.

Tottenham could have to cash-in on Romero, who is believed to be eyeing a move away from N17 as Atlético Madrid put in extensive work on signing him for Diego Simeone ahead of next season (Marca).

There could also be changes nearer boardroom level, with ex-managing director Fabio Paratici still in the picture for a return to the club.

Fabio Paratici inclined to re-join Tottenham after failed AC Milan talks

The Italian was repeatedly linked with a reunion at Spurs, as his worldwide FIFA ban from footballing activity is due to expire on June 30th.

Reports earlier this month claimed Levy personally held talks with Paratici about re-joining Tottenham, and he was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Paratici’s negotiations over a move to AC Milan also collapsed in early April, but according to an update via Milan News, the 52-year-old held a recent meeting with the Rossoneri to discuss his appointment once again.

The prospect of becoming Milan’s sporting director was on the table again for him during these discussions, but it is currently believed Paratici is more inclined to work at Tottenham and continue his adventure away from Italy.

After being forced to resign from his Spurs post in 2023, Paratici remains a popular figure among supporters, having led the club’s pursuit of key signings like Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, Romero, Porro, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie and Pape Sarr.

Known for his tireless work ethic behind-closed-doors, it will be intriguing to see if Levy is still tempted by the prospect of welcoming him back.

Perfect Kudus replacement: West Ham on high alert to sign PL "nuisance"

The signing of Niclas Fullkrug has not worked out as expected for West Ham United. The German joined the club from Borussia Dortmund for £27m with plenty of Champions League pedigree, having reached the final of the competition last season. He also featured at Euro 2024 for Germany, scoring two goals for the hosts.

However, the 32-year-old has struggled with two fairly lengthy injuries and has been unable to adapt to the Premier League. He has managed just three goals and two assists in 15 top flight appearances this term. It has certainly been a struggle for Fullkrug.

West Ham United's Niclas Fullkrug celebrates scoring their first goal with West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen

Despite his woes, the Hammers might look to bring in another German forward this summer to bolster their attack.

West Ham target German forward

It has been a tough time in the Premier League so far for Timo Werner. The former Chelsea man, now on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, will not remain in North London beyond this season, which has seemingly opened up the door for a potential transfer elsewhere in the Premier League.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Well, according to a report from talkSPORT, the 29-year-old might be set to stay in London, with West Ham one of the sides who are ‘on alert’ to his availability in the coming weeks. His parent club, RB Leipzig, seem willing to sell him this summer.

However, the Hammers are not the only London outfit linked with a move. West Londoners Fulham are also believed to be interested, if the attacker becomes available.

A price is not yet confirmed, but given Spurs had a buy option of £8.5m in their loan deal, it seems safe to assume hw will be available for a similar price this summer.

Why Werner would be a good signing

Make no mistake about it, the 2024/25 campaign for Werner has been underwhelming. He is far from the attacker who tore the Bundesliga to shreds back in the 2019/20 season, where he scored 28 goals and grabbed eight assists in just 34 games. That sort of form led Statman Dave to describe him as “very special”.

Timo Werner for Tottenham

This term has been at the other end of the spectrum for the former Stuttgart attacker. He has played 27 times for Spurs across all competitions, featuring for 946 minutes. That equates to just 10.5 full 90-minute games. Since the turn of the year, he’s played just 70 Premier League minutes.

Werner has only managed one goal this term, too. That came against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round, a game which his Spurs side won 2-1. It was a strong finish too, meeting a cross from Dejan Kulusevski and firing home.

Should the Hammers bring Werner to East London this summer, he could prove to be a replacement for Mohammed Kudus. In the same talkSPORT article, it is reported that Arsenal are targeting the Ghana international, with West Ham ‘willing to cash in’ on the attacker.

Mohammed Kudus celebrates for West Ham

It has actually not been the easiest season for the Hammers’ number 14, either. He has featured in 29 games in the Premier League this term, but has only managed four goals and two assists in that time.

That is just three goal involvements more than Werner in 11 more games.

There are underlying statistics via FBref to suggest that Werner would not be a bad replacement for Kudus. For example, the German international averages 0.52 goal-creating actions and 1.75 key passes per 90 minutes, compared to Kudus’ 0.26 goal-creating actions and 1.08 key passes each game.

It might be an outside-of-the-box option, but for a fee that could be £8.5m, the £165k-per-week Werner might be an ideal replacement for Kudus. Like the Ghana international, he has had a tough season, but at his very best, he can hurt teams, having been hailed as a “nuisance” and a “threat” by Sky Sports pundit, Roy Keane.

For such a cheap fee, it seems like a relatively risk-free deal, and one that could enhance the Hammers’ attacking options next term.

Man Utd could land a bigger talent than Amad in "unplayable" £60m star

A recent report suggested that there are just four players deemed to be unsellable this summer at Manchester United, with almost the entire squad at risk of being shown the door, should a suitable offer arrive.

Unsurprisingly – despite recent interest from Saudi Arabia – talismanic captain, Bruno Fernandes is among that select quartet, with the 30-year-old only recently lauded as “one of the top players in the world” by compatriot, Ruben Amorim.

20-year-old wing-back Patrick Dorgu was also named, having only joined the club from Lecce in January, while man of the moment Harry Maguire appears to be another set to stay put, having been described as “perfect” for the 3-4-3 system by his manager.

The final name mentioned on that list was a player who only recently signed a new bumper contract extension, with Amad Diallo committing his future to the club until the summer of 2030.

Previously something of a bit-part player in previous regimes, the returning Ivorian now looks set to be front and centre under Amorim – and deservedly so.

Amad's record under Ten Hag vs under Amorim

There was a feeling that Amad’s chance would never come at Old Trafford, with the former Atalanta wonderkid having actually signed as far back as October 2020, before eventually arriving just a few months.

An inventive header against AC Milan on debut showcased a mere glimpse of why United had forked out an initial fee of £19m, albeit with the then-teenager going on to play just eight games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s watch.

Sent out on loan to Rangers and then Sunderland, Amad’s subsequent return to the first-team squad was halted by injury on the pre-season tour in 2023, with Erik ten Hag seemingly hesitant to unleash the forward even when he was back to full fitness for the start of 2024.

While last season ended on a high with his first Premier League goal against Newcastle United, having netted the winner in the FA Cup thriller against Liverpool, he never seemingly earned the faith of the Dutchman, having again slipped behind Antony in the attacking pecking order prior to Ten Hag’s dismissal.

Reinvigorated during Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim spell, which yielded two goals, the £120k-per-week winger has also been a shining light following Amorim’s arrival, having chalked up an assist from wing-back for the first goal of the Portuguese’s tenure against Ipswich Town.

High-profile goals have since followed against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, alongside a blistering hat-trick against Southampton, with Sunday’s consolation strike against Brentford marking his 13th goal involvement in just 22 outings under the new boss.

Injury had hampered his progress between February and April, but fit and firing again, Amad will be crucial over the coming weeks, and potentially years.

That said, it is exciting to suggest that an even bigger attacking talent could be on their way to Manchester this summer…

Man Utd could sign an even bigger talent than Amad

The last year or so has marked a real rise for Amad in a United shirt, having stepped into the limelight and stayed there, seemingly unburdened by the pressures that have shackled far too many before him.

Amad Diallo

A refreshingly positive and front-foot player, the diminutive wideman is a talent that gets the crowd off their feet. The next challenge, however, is to find real consistency, particularly on the Premier League front.

That is a quality that reported summer target, Bryan Mbeumo has showcased in abundance, with the Cameroon international having enjoyed a simply stunning campaign for the Bees in 2024/25.

Recent reports have claimed that the Red Devils are eyeing a potential move for the £60m-rated sensation this summer, with interest also being shown in another shining top-flight talent, Matheus Cunha.

It is Mbeumo, however, who has eclipsed both Cunha and Amad – as indicated below – with the France-born speedster racking up 18 goals and six assists in the league this season. To put that into perspective, not even Marcus Rashford has reached 18 goals in a Premier League campaign in his career so far.

That record of 16 ‘big chances’ created also outlines just what a weapon Mbeumo has been under Thomas Frank, with not even United’s creative hub, Fernandes, able to better that tally (14), as per Sofascore.

There’s no denying that this has been by far Mbeumo’s best season since Brentford’s promotion, although that’s not to say he hasn’t impressed previously, having registered 67 goals and assists in 140 appearances in the competition – including 18 goals in 2022/23 and 2023/24 combined.

Amad, meanwhile, has just eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League to date – albeit from only 35 games – with Mbeumo something of the benchmark when it comes to the very best that the division has to offer.

Simply “unplayable” on his day, in the words of Frank, the former Troyes man would be a worthy option as a number nine, a number ten or even in a wing-back berth, with the potential there for him to emerge as United’s new attacking figurehead.

West Ham now come forward to sign "outstanding" £34m UCL-winning striker

West Ham United have come forward to sign an “outstanding” striker, who is now likely to leave his club in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Hammers set sights on striker after Forest defeat

Graham Potter would have been hoping the 2-0 victory over Manchester United would give his side the platform to have a strong end to the Premier League season, but his side fell to yet another defeat on Sunday afternoon, with Nottingham Forest prevailing 2-1 at the London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen, who has been one of the only bright sparks for the Hammers this season, was once again on the scoresheet, netting his 12th Premier League goal of the campaign, with the England international featuring as a striker.

Bowen’s output this season indicates he could be capable of remaining the first-choice centre-forward in the 2025-26 campaign, rather than moving back out wide, with Potter currently short on options in that area of the pitch.

West Ham United's JarrodBowencelebrates scoring their first goal

However, with Michail Antonio now 35-years-old and Niclas Fullkrug failing to make an impact in his debut Premier League campaign, it could be wise to bring in another striker this summer, and a forward with top-level experience has now entered the frame.

According to a report from Italy (via Sport Witness), West Ham have now come forward to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, who is set to leave the Italian side permanently this summer, upon returning from his loan with AC Milan.

A deal will not be easy, however, with Abraham setting his sights on a move to a ‘top-tier club’, despite his recent struggles, and there are doubts over whether he would be tempted by a move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers have set their sights on a striker, who is also being targeted by Arsenal and Aston Villa.

ByDominic Lund May 18, 2025 "Outstanding" Abraham could reignite career at West Ham

In truth, the 27-year-old is unlikely to be in a position to be too picky about his next club, given that he has hardly set the world alight in the Serie A this season, picking up just three goals and five assists throughout the campaign.

The Englishman could get his career back on track by moving back to his native country, however, and a move to the London Stadium could be a good fit for all parties, with Potter currently lacking options in the striker department.

Despite his recent struggles, the “outstanding” former Chelsea man also has a lot of experience at the top level, having made 22 appearances in the Champions League, winning the competition during his time with the Blues.

As such, Abraham, who cost AS Roma £34m back in 2021, could be a solid signing for West Ham this summer, should he be willing to change his stance and move to a club of the Hammers’ stature.

Le Fee 2.0: Sunderland set sights on signing "fantastic" star from France

All of Sunderland’s focus right now will be on Saturday’s Championship playoff final as one of football’s most nerve-wracking finals is only a matter of days away.

But, beyond the high-stakes affair at Wembley, the Black Cats will also be contemplating what signings they can make during the summer transfer window, with their potential bumped up status as a Premier League club allowing to make some big purchases, away from sticking it out in the EFL.

Still, as was showcased in the surprise loan capture of Enzo Le Fee, Regis Le Bris’ men do have the pulling power to attract some statement buys to the Stadium of Light even when in the second tier, with another notable addition from France looking to be on the horizon.

Sunderland moving for Le Fee 2.0

Obviously, Sunderland fans will be praying their high-flying side do win promotion, with Premier League football returning to Wearside very much boosting their chances of keeping the likes of Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg around for longer.

Another added bonus will also be the calibre of star they can tempt in through the door as recently relegated Montpellier centre-back Modibo Sagnan begins to be linked with a switch to England away from the now Ligue 2 outfit.

A recent report from French outlet Midi Libre – as has been relayed by Sports Witness – has suggested that the Black Cats are a lone suitor currently looking at Sagnan, although Daniel Farke’s newly promoted Leeds United have been noted in the past as being interested in the 6 foot 2 defender’s services.

Sunderland will hope they hold an advantage in any race that could ensue considering how well their swoop of Le Fee has gone down, with the Mali international having the potential to be their next iteration of the Lorient-born ace if he also acclimatises to his new surroundings with ease.

How Sagnan could be Sunderland's next Le Fee

Before exploring deeper how Sagnan could be a great fit in Le Bris’ camp when making the move across from France, it’s only fair to look at how uncomplicated Le Fee has made his own transition to English football look.

Indeed, even whilst competing in the complicated lottery that is the Championship playoffs, the 25-year-old ace has continued to put in confident and assured performances, with his defence-splitting assist in the first leg versus Coventry City getting his promotion-chasing team up and running on their travels.

Black Cats supporters will be hoping their team can strike gold in a similar manner to Le Fee when utilising the French market again, with Sagnan’s glowing Ligue 1 numbers this campaign suggesting he should be able to settle in swimmingly to his fresh Stadium of Light location.

Of course, there will be concerns over the move considering the 26-year-old is still very raw off a relegation, but his numbers point in the direction that he wasn’t solely responsible for Montpellier’s demise. Rather, he might well actually be one rare positive defensively.

After all, during large portions of his celebrated Lorient stay, Le Fee would regularly battle it out towards the bottom end of the top French division.

Therefore, Sagnan could come in and be as impactful as his 25-year-old counterpart, with the table above showing off a defender that would be unafraid to get stuck in for his new employers in either the Championship or Premier League, on top of also being assured to enough to play out from the back whatever league they were in.

Once heralded as “fantastic” by ex-Everton boss Ronald Koeman, time will only tell if this deal would go on to be as successful as Le Fee’s.

But, with Sunderland needing more defensive bodies very soon owing to Chris Mepham only being around on a loan basis, securing Magnan’s services could end up being a worthwhile swoop irrespective of any lofty comparisons.

Outscored Beto: Leeds in talks to sign "generational" CF who's like Sesko

Despite Leeds United having enjoyed a superb 2024/25 campaign in the Championship, this summer is a vital one for their future, desperately needing to get their business spot on.

Promotion to the Premier League brings in huge money for the football club, but there is a huge gap between the two divisions, with additions needed to bridge the gap this window.

Daniel Farke will need signings in key areas of the pitch to allow him to have the best possible chance of securing survival from the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Leeds United manager DanielFarkebefore the match

The German has attempted to achieve such a feat with Norwich City in the past, but has so far been unable to do so, with this season crucial for his tenure at Elland Road.

With the new season already less than two months away, work has already begun behind the scenes in Yorkshire to help the manager in his quest throughout 2025/26.

The latest on Leeds’ hunt for new additions this summer

Over recent days, a new striker has been on the agenda for Farke, as he looks to add another dimension to his already potent attack, which helped claim promotion to the Premier League.

The likes of Jamie Vardy, Rodrigo Muniz and Callum Wilson have all been touted with a switch to Elland Road, but no deals have yet been completed this summer.

However, a new name has entered the mix in recent days, with Wolves striker Fabio Silva the latest player on their shortlist, according to ABC Sevilla via Birmingham World.

It’s reported that the Whites have entered talks with fellow Premier League outfit Wolves over a deal for the 22-year-old talisman, who only has one year left on his contract.

His current situation at Molineux remains unclear, but he’s demonstrated his quality over recent times, scoring 10 times in LaLiga this season whilst spending the year on loan at Las Palmas.

Why Leeds’ latest target could be their own Sesko

Beto is another striker who’s been hugely linked with a summer move to join Leeds, with the Everton talisman yet to reach his full potential at his current side, Everton.

The 27-year-old joined the Toffees in a £30m deal back in the summer of 2023, but has been unable to take the starting role on a consistent basis, often having to settle for time on the bench.

He’s managed to score eight times in the Premier League this season, subsequently being outscored by fellow target Silva, with the Whites needing to shift their focus to the Portuguese star.

The 22-year-old has been ranked as a similar player to RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko by FBref, with the Slovenian international linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.

He’s also valued at around £60m this summer, highlighting the impressive nature of Silva’s play if he’s been compared to such an impressive big-money talent.

When comparing the pair’s respective figures from the 2024/25 campaign, Silva has managed to match or better Sesko in various key areas, highlighting how much of a crucial addition he would be to Farke’s side.

Silva, who’s been labelled “generational” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, may have scored fewer goals, but has achieved a better goal per shot on target rate – highlighting the clinical threat he poses in front of goal.

The Wolves loanee has also registered more shot-creating actions and won more aerial battles, offering Farke’s side an all-round option within attacking areas.

His dominance doesn’t stop there, completing more passes and carries into the opposition box, handing other players around him the opportunity to impress in Yorkshire.

Whilst it’s unclear how much a deal for the Portuguese sensation would set the club back this summer, his talents are there for all to see – potentially being a bargain if he can reach Sesko’s levels.

Given the fact he’s outscored Beto, the hierarchy must look to prioritise a move for the Wolves star, with the youngster having the opportunity to improve further given his tender age.

Talks opened: Derby now make contact to sign "unbelievable" defender for £0

Derby County have now opened talks to sign an “unbelievable” defender, who is set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the month, according to a report.

Derby set to strengthen in defence

Derby survived the drop by the barest of margins last season, and they have their defence to thank, keeping clean sheets in four out of their last eight games to ensure Championship football will be played at Pride Park once again next season.

In the end, John Eustace wasn’t left to rue the decision to leave Blackburn Rovers for the Rams, but a club of their stature will have far loftier ambitions than merely surviving in the second tier, and the manager is looking to put his own stamp on his squad.

Despite the stellar defensive efforts at the back end of last season, one position in which Eustace appears to be particularly keen to strengthen is centre-back, with the likes of Blackburn Rovers’ Danny Batth and Birmingham City’s Dion Sanderson of interest.

According to a report from Derbyshire Live, a League One centre-back has also been identified as a target, namely Lincoln City’s Paudie O’Connor, with Derby recently opening talks over a deal for the defender.

O’Connor’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month, meaning he is able to leave the Imps on a free transfer, and there are a number of clubs interested in his signature, with Huddersfield Town and Barnsley also being linked.

Wycombe Wanderers are currently believed to be in pole position for the Lincoln centre-back, but a move to Pride Park could be more appealing, given that Championship football will be on offer next season.

Derby need new centre-back after Phillips departure

The Rams’ defence was not the main problem last season, considering they shipped fewer goals than Coventry City, who reached the play-off semi-final, but it is clear they will need to bring in a new centre-back this summer, as Nat Phillips has returned to Liverpool.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips.

Phillips was a regular starter whenever fit, making 32 appearances in the Championship last term, and he even scored a vital goal away at Hull City in the penultimate match of the season, which proved to be crucial in Eustace’s side avoiding the drop.

As such, it could be a difficult task to replace the 28-year-old, but there are some signs that O’Connor could be up to the task, having previously been lauded as “unbelievable” by teammate Jack Moylan.

The Lincoln captain was a key player for the Imps last season, making 45 appearances in all competitions, during which time he also proved himself to be a real attacking threat, picking up three goals and five assists in League One.

As such, the Irishman could now be ready to test himself at Championship level, and he would be a low-risk addition to the Derby squad on a free transfer.

Rangers fans wowed by £5m target who plays like the "reincarnation of Luis Suarez"

Rangers are “weighing up” a move for a striker who loves doing “special things” on the pitch, according to a new update from Sky Sports journalist Luca Bendoni.

This is expected to be a summer of plenty of ins and outs at Ibrox, with new manager Russell Martin of course keen to get in the right players to suit his own system, offloading those who he doesn’t see a future for.

Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has emerged as an exciting target for Rangers, with the 27-year-old surely not wanting to be in the Championship with Saints next season. With the 2026 World Cup looming next summer, he will want to have as good a chance as possible of making England’s squad by starting on a big stage this term.

Meanwhile, Peterborough United centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez has also been talked about as an option for the Gers, following an impressive 2024/25 campaign that saw him average six clearances and 3.5 aerial duel wins per game in League One.

On the downside, Hamza Igamane’s time as a Rangers player looks to be nearing its conclusion, with the striker said to have agreed personal terms with Lille, heading to the Ligue 1 side as Jonathan David’s replacement.

Rangers eyeing move for attacking ace

According to Bendoni on X, Rangers are now “weighing up” a move for Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Don Turgeman this summer.

Turgeman is an exciting attacking talent who would be a long-term signing for the Gers, considering he is still only 21 years of age. He has already won 10 caps for Israel, scoring once for his country in the process.

He has spoken about the brilliance he likes to produce on the pitch, while Gers fans are already getting excited and even comparing him to the great Luis Suarez.

Turgeman could be an ideal direct replacement for Igamane, coming in as a key starter and hopefully taking to the Scottish Premiership with ease, and 32 goals in 109 appearances for Tel Aviv bodes well.

He should only get better as he matures as a player, and the fact that he likes to entertain could make him an immediate crowd favourite among Rangers supporters.
