The IPL, too, has had a number of withdrawals for the same reason already.Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, player withdrawals due to bubble fatigue have been a feature in many tournaments and series across the world. Several of the withdrawals have had less to do with the fear of contracting Covid-19 and more with the demands of jumping from one stringent bubble to the other, with restricted movement and a life confined to hotels.

وواصل: “ومن ثم فإن محمد صلاح لم يفاجئني، لأنني أعلم بالفعل عدد الأهداف التي يستطيع تسجيلها، ولكنه يقدم موسمًا رائعًا مثل العديد من لاعبي ليفربول”.

Now, it’s time for results. West Ham United have endured a stop-start introduction to life under Julen Lopetegui, but the October international break will have given the Irons time to prepare for the next phase of Premier League action.

It’s been over two months since the Lopetegui era took off competitively, and though the Spaniard was reluctant to push his new signings through to the field initially, the £120m’s worth of talent ushered through the gates this summer is beginning to show its quality.

In the build-up to Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Lopetegui was reluctant to disclose the extent of Niclas Fullkrug’s seemingly interminable injury. The 31-year-old striker, signed from Borussia Dortmund for £27m in the summer, has missed the past five matches with an Achilles injury.

The other end of the field presents greater positivity, however, with Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman, both summer additions, forging a bond that speaks of strength and fluency. Technical director Tim Stiedten had his work cut out in fixing the Hammers’ shoddy backline but he’s done a stellar job.

Though the expenditure was high, West Ham have done a good job of dishing out salaries economically. Centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd took home a combined £175k per week last term, but the struggling duo are now gone and Kilman (£ 100k per week) and Fullkrug (£90k per week) are experienced talents with more to offer.

Furthermore, Todibo, a loanee, is only taking home £20k per week at present, giving the east Londoners some financial breathing space, while the talented Crysencio Summerville, who won the Championship Player of the Season with Leeds United, pockets just £30k each week.

It’s important that United continue to trim the fat and ensure that exciting additions can be brought in. Danny Ings earns a pretty penny and should be ditched, but so too should Lukasz Fabianski, who is now past his best and has been firmly replaced.

West Ham purchased Fabianski from Swansea City for a £7m fee back in 2018, and he’s since completed 202 appearances for the Irons, making them the team he has played for the most across his long and storied career.

Losing his place in the Premier League to Alphonse Areola across the past few campaigns, the ageing keeper’s role has been understandably diminished. But he’s still impressed, with The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas even hailing his “brilliant” shot-stopper last season.

But we’re now approaching the end, with the veteran’s contract having entered its final year. Fabianski has earned his flowers in the capital and can retire, or search for one final adventure elsewhere, with the glowing knowledge that he has played an instrumental part of West Ham’s most illustrious modern era.

Even though he did not feature throughout the club’s Conference League-winning campaign, serving as the Premier League keeper that year, he’s still been awarded a medal and deservedly so, for his exploits got United into the position.

But with a salary of £60k per week, it’s clear that he should now be cut loose. For example, he takes a bite out of the wage bill that exceeds the combined earnings of both of the aforementioned Summerville and Tobido.

Todibo is indeed on loan so will be rewarded with a bumper new deal when his obligatory permanent purchase option from OGC Nice is activated, but such raised earnings, as discussed earlier, could be easier served with the space created from Fabianski’s departure.

Summerville, however, plies his trade at the London Stadium for good, and though he’s only young, there’s enough quality there to suggest that he could become a major player, so his £30k-per-week salary is actually a piece of very astute business from Stiedten and co.

Despite enduring the misery of shipping five goals, the 39-year-old was handed a creditable 5/10 match score by the Evening Standard’s Dom Smith, who said: ‘Jota beat him with two good finishes. Then Salah did. Showed excellent distribution with one inch-perfect long ball forward for Crysencio Summerville, then made a super stop to deny Alexis Mac Allister. Busy.’

The former Poland international has only played 45 minutes in the top flight this term, introduced at half-time during West Ham’s home defeat against Manchester City.

Though he hasn’t started the current campaign in form quite so fine, Areola’s 74.5% save rate from the 2023/24 Premier League edition was bettered only by Manchester United’s Andre Onana, as per FBref, whose marginal advantage came in at 74.9%.

The French shot-stopper is embedded between the sticks and will not want to relinquish his place any time soon, and though West Ham landed Wes Foderingham in July on a free transfer after his deal at Sheffield United expired, this acquisition was likely made with an eye on replacing Fabianski as the back-up.

The man turns 40 before the end of the season, after all. He’s been a fantastic servant for the club and will forever be remembered for his role in winning the Conference League in 2023, but his forthcoming departure is right, necessary.

Considering West Ham’s sure-fingered dealings in the transfer market, it’s likely that the funds freed up could be turned toward a new star, elsewhere on the pitch, who could add crucially to this latest version of the Hammers machine.

دعا نادي النجوم في بيان رسمي الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم إلى الإسراع في تنفيذ قرار الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم فيفا، الصادر في 22 يناير 2025، والذي يُلزم الاتحاد المصري باتخاذ إجراءات حاسمة ضد النادي الإسماعيلي بسبب عدم التزامه بتنفيذ حكم المحكمة الرياضية الدولية “كاس” منذ أكثر من خمس سنوات.

وأوضح البيان أن فيفا اعتبر هذا التأخير بمثابة إنكار واضح للعدالة بحق نادي النجوم، مما يستوجب فرض عقوبات صارمة على الإسماعيلي لضمان التزامه بالحكم الصادر لصالح النجوم.

Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke had some big decisions to make during the summer transfer window after he lost centre-forward Georginio Rutter to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The France U21 international produced six goals and 15 assists in the Championship during the 2023/24 campaign, but the manager opted against dipping into the market to sign another striker.

Instead, Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe, with Patrick Bamford in reserve as the third-choice number nine, have been entrusted with the number nine jersey this season.

That decision from the former Norwich City tactician has turned out to be a masterstroke, as Piroe and Joseph have both enjoyed strong starts to the campaign.

The Leeds academy graduate started the first eight games of the Championship season and has been a substitute in each of the last five matches.

Joseph has scored two goals, created four ‘big chances’, and provided three assists in those 13 outings in total, which means that he has been directly involved in five goals in eight starts.

As you can see in the table above, Piroe has been the most prolific of the three strikers in the squad and has offered a reliable source of goals for Farke in the final third.

Hopefully, the 21-year-old Joseph will continue to develop throughout the season and eventually emerge as another consistent goalscorer for the Whites.

Leeds did once have one of the most consistent scorers in Championship history when they had Billy Sharp on their books for the 2014/15 campaign, and he went on to thrive after his exit from Elland Road.

After a return of just five goals in 33 Championship games, following his move from Southampton, the Whites immediately cashed in on the English forward, selling him to Sheffield United for a fee of just £500k.

Given his disappointing return in a Leeds shirt, there may not have been much of a fuss made over the small fee that they sold him for, but it was one that the club surely went on to regret.

Sharp, who was once hailed as “brilliant” by boss Chris Wilder, has since scored a whopping 127 goals at club level for the Blades, LA Galaxy, and Doncaster Rovers combined in the nine years since his move away from West Yorkshire.

As you can see in the image above, Sharp has a terrific record in his career at League One and Championship level but was unable to showcase the best of his ability at Leeds.

He is currently the fifth-top scorer in League One history and, has smashed the record for the most goals in the Championship, with 130 – seven more than Jordan Rhodes in second place.

Sharp also became Sheffield United’s all-time top scorer with 129 strikes in all competitions for the Blades, with spells either side of his time with Leeds.

This means that the veteran centre-forward has broken multiple goalscoring records and racked up 127 goals in total since his £500k exit from Elland Road, which is a sale the club may have regretted in the years since that move was completed.

Wolverhampton Wanderers fought back to salvage a dramatic 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion last time out in Premier League action, with the Old Gold the happier of the two sides at the end of the barnstorming affair.

Gary O’Neil’s men were staring another defeat straight in the face before two late strikes secured a share of the spoils for the away team, courtesy of Rayan Aït-Nouri and Matheus Cunha coming up trumps.

That was Cunha’s fourth strike already this season in the top flight, as the Brazilian star continues to shine bright for his relegation-threatened outfit, despite any adversity facing them.

His showing against the Seagulls was particularly impressive, with Cunha lively all match away from his last-gasp equaliser, accumulating four key passes as a creative spark for his lowly outfit.

The 25-year-old would also register five shots on goal away from his decisive strike, with the Brighton defenders having to stay on high alert all contest on the South Coast to ensure Cunha didn’t cause further havoc, managing to block three of his efforts on the day.

There was a slight slice of fortune in Cunha’s equaliser cannoning past Bart Verbruggen – owing to a deflection off a Seagulls man – but neither O’Neil nor their standout South American would care, as the former Atletico Madrid forward continues to excel for the West Midlands outfit to ultimately keep the ex-AFC Bournemouth manager in a job.

The Wolves number ten will just hope more goals come about soon, but wins manage to be notched up too, as the Old Gold remain without a victory near the foot of the Premier League after nine games.

Despite continuing to star for his side, Cunha isn’t on a mindblowing wage whatsoever, earning £60k-per-week for O’Neil’s men, according to reports.

Whereas, other strikers – who never possessed the midas touch in-front of goal like the 25-year-old – earned heftier pay packets by doing very little, with one attacker in particular sticking out as a costly mistake on Wolves’ end.

The world must have been expected of Patrick Cutrone when he walked into the building at Molineux in 2019 on a bumper £23m deal, having impressed in Italy before making the bold switch over to Wolverhampton.

The Como-born forward would fire home a promising 27 strikes for AC Milan from 90 appearances, with Wolves – then under the care of Nuno Espirito Santo – hopeful that the Italian striker would settle in swimmingly to his new environment in England.

Cutrone would only last 28 games at Molineux before being moved on to his hometown club of Como in 2022, having also been loaned out three times away from Wolves around that time in a bid to get him off their books for good.

In total, when weighing up his excessive £23m fee and his wage costs over the only full season he was situated at Wolves before a whole host of temporary loan moves away, Cutrone would cost the Old Gold a damaging £26m in total.

Annoyingly, although the 6 foot attacker would never quite fully explode into life for Wolves, he would turn into a goal machine playing for Como, with an impressive return of five strikes this season from ten overall contests.

Amazingly, that beats Cunha’s goal total by one playing back in England, but that doesn’t soften the damage whatsoever of Cutrone’s goal-shy spell or do much to correct the move denting the Wolves bank account.

It’s clear now that the Nuno signing just wasn’t a great fit at Wolves, whilst Cunha and O’Neil’s men as a combination continue to feel like a match that was meant to be.
