Newcastle confirm Ritchie withdrawal

Newcastle United have revealed that Matt Ritchie has pulled out of the Scotland squad ahead of their international friendly against Hungary on Tuesday night.

Ritchie played 87 minutes of Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica on Friday, and had been in line to feature in Alex McLeish’s second game back in charge of the national team.

However, a statement from Newcastle on Monday revealed that Ritchie had withdrawn Scotland duty, and would return to his Premier League club to be assessed.

It is currently unclear whether the attacker will be fit to face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Ritchie has scored twice and registered six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Magpies during the 2017-18 campaign.

Newcastle, who could have Islam Slimani available this weekend, will enter the clash with Huddersfield having lost just one of their last six league fixtures, with that run of form leaving them in 13th position in the table.

Liverpool fans react to derby draw in Salah’s absence

Mo Salah limped out of Liverpool’s 3-0 thrashing of Manchester City at Anfield on Wednesday night and was not risked by Jurgen Klopp for the Merseyside derby visit to Goodison Park.

The German made five changes to preserve his charges ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium for the return leg on Tuesday night and that meant that his top scorer wasn’t even in the squad.

The end result was an uninspiring performance and a 0-0 draw, but even the point could have evaporated late on when Cenk Tosun, Seamus Coleman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all spurned chances to net a late winner.

Klopp may argue that escaping the match without any further injuries and being able to give some of his elite players a rest represents a good afternoon’s work.

Yet, the derby is one of the most important games of the season to the fans and many of them were concerned about the lack of potency in the Reds’ attack without Salah.

We’ve picked out just a few concerned Liverpool fans…

West Ham fans were left pleasantly surprised by Hart’s Chelsea performance

West Ham United had watched scorelines go their way in the relegation fight before their trip to Chelsea which only added to the growing sense that they would be okay this season.

Southampton and Stoke both lost out to North London sides and they travelled to Stamford Bridge with the capacity to approach the game as something of a free hit.

If getting anything out of the trip to face London rivals Chelsea was a bonus then a point, garnered after enduring a lot of home pressure after a promising opening, was a welcome one in their battle against the drop.

Joe Hart’s inclusion did not necessarily please West Ham fans prior to kick off but the England international kept his side in the game at times and was the unexpected subject of praise from his own fans.

Substitute Javier Hernandez grabbed an equaliser late on but it was the England man who got his fair share of plaudits after arguably his best performance of the season…

Everton fans are loving it as Vlasic returns to the bench for Swansea game

Everton couldn’t manage a Merseyside derby win against a weakened Liverpool side last weekend and then had to watch on as their bitter rivals spent the week celebrated making the Champions League semi-finals.

To pile on the misery, the Toffees are stuck going nowhere fast under Sam Allardyce who should be using the dead rubbers towards the end of the season to work towards next season.

He isn’t, but is persisting with the same shape and largely the same players that have led to the malaise at Goodison Park and the natives are not impressed.

That means that the sight of promising young winger Nikola Vlasic on the substitutes bench for the trip to Swansea is enough to get them excited at this stage.

We’ve taken a closer look at the best of the reaction from the Toffees as the wideman moves closer to getting his chance to add some genuine width to this Everton side…

West Ham fans unhappy with Moyes comments

Well, there is just a bit of pressure on West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian to perform against Manchester City this weekend then.

Adrian will face the Premier League champions due to the fact that Joe Hart is ineligible to take on his parent club, and the Spaniard will be looking to produce a strong performance so that he can finish the season as West Ham’s number one.

Facing City is not exactly the easiest of tasks, and it does appear that head coach David Moyes has placed an unnecessary amount of pressure on Adrian with his comments on Friday afternoon.

It would be a huge surprise if West Ham dropped out of the Premier League from their current position, but they face a huge task at home to City on Sunday afternoon.

The Hammers will then take on Leicester City, Manchester United and Everton in their final three league fixtures of the 2017-18 campaign, and defeat in all four would certainly leave them a bit vulnerable.

The West Ham fans were furious with Moyes’ comments on Friday afternoon, and the Scot appears to be losing the supporters pretty quickly.

Leeds fans react as reported transfer target Kyle Bartley suffers knee injury

Swansea City confirmed on their official website on Monday that reported Leeds United transfer target Kyle Bartley suffered a knee ligament injury in his side’s defeat against Manchester City earlier this month, and Whites fans have been quick to have their say on the news.

The Yorkshire Post revealed exclusively on Saturday that the Yorkshire outfit have opened talks with the Welsh club about bringing the 6ft 4in centre-back back to Elland Road, following a successful season-long loan spell last term.

A deal for the 26-year-old looked doubtful when he signed a new contract to stay at the Liberty Stadium last August, but he has struggled for first-team minutes under current boss Carlos Carvalhal and has now suffered a potentially bad injury.

Leeds supporters, who have expressed their unhappiness with the man Bartley could replace, captain Liam Cooper, on Twitter, took to social media to give their thoughts on the injury update, and while one said signing him is “not worth the risk”, another disagreed and said “sign him anyway”.

Everton fans rejoice at Allardyce exit rumours

Multiple reports claim Sam Allardyce will leave Everton within the next 24 hours, and Everton fans are absolutely ecstatic.

Everton fans were delighted on Monday night when a report from the Mirror claimed Sam Allardyce would leave the club this week, and now the Times and Sky Sports have both backed the claims.

According to both David Maddock of the Mirror and Paul Joyce of the Times, the Toffees first choice to replace the former England boss is Marco Silva.

Silva was sacked by Watford earlier this season, and is one of a number of names that has been linked to the Goodison job in recent weeks, with Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca also heavily linked.

Allardyce’s position has become untenable in the second half of the season, as the relationship between fans and manager has grown more and more toxic.

The results have improved for the Toffees, but the performances definitely haven’t, and fans are fed up of uninspiring, defensive displays.

The report from Sky Sports suggests Big Sam could even leave within the next 24 hours, music to the ears of the Goodison faithful.

Jamie Vardy proved against Tottenham why Everton must sign him this summer

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy finished another impressive Premier League season with a brilliant display in his side’s final day 5-4 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday, and Everton must make him their No. 1 transfer target this summer.

The 31-year-old, rated at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, scored twice to reach the 20-goal mark in the top flight, ending the campaign with 20 goals in 37 league matches for the Foxes.

As per usual, the England international worked his socks off up top – pressurising defenders and chasing lost causes – and he got his reward with a brace.

Meanwhile, Toffees boss Sam Allardyce admitted last week that the Merseyside outfit need another striker this summer to challenge Cenk Tosun for a spot in the XI, and they should be considering launching an offer for Vardy when the transfer window opens this week.

The fact that the attacker scored two goals from four shots at Wembley is even more impressive considering he only touched the ball 20 times in the game, and he also made two key passes to show his unselfish side – as per WhoScored.com.

Everton’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday proved that there is plenty of work to be done in terms of improving the squad if they are to challenge for Europe next term – 63% of Toffees fans don’t want a 41-year-old manager to replace the unpopular Allardyce this summer – and Vardy looks as though he could be an ideal attacking signing for the club.

Revealed: Man United fans divided over RW berth for Chelsea clash

While Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku appear nailed on to start Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday, the final position in their front three is a little less clear.

Nobody has really made the right wing berth their own at Old Trafford this season, despite a number of options being available to Jose Mourinho.

With that in mind, we gave United fans four options earlier this week; Juan Mata, who started there last time out against Watford, England duo Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, and French attacker Anthony Martial.

Our poll proved that United supporters are pretty divided over the issue, which only highlights how much of a problem position it’s been for Mourinho throughout the campaign. There was just an 8% difference between the most popular choice, Lingard, and Martial in third.

It was clear though, that Mata remains the least fancied option, despite the Spaniard laying on the most key passes of any United player in the Premier League this season, 51 from 28 appearances.

How would you set up Mourinho’s side on Saturday, United fans? Let us know by commenting below…

Newcastle United fans want to keep Mitrovic after play-off performance

Newcastle United fans are interested in giving Aleksandar Mitrovic a second chance at the club after his successful loan spell at Fulham culminated in promotion to the English Premier League.

Mitrovic was a powerful presence throughout the Cottagers’ 1-0 play-off final win against Aston Villa on Saturday. He’s also scored 12 goals in 20 appearances for the club since moving to London on loan in January.

Speculation will now be rife about which club he’ll be at next season, with Fulham supporters obviously desperate to keep him at Craven Cottage.

Fans of the Magpies aren’t entirely keen to see him leave either, although there are many eyeing a cash-in on the in-form striker.

Plenty are eager for him to get another chance under Rafa Benitez though, recognising he is still a young, developing player and knows his way to goal with a run of games.
