Sky Sports: Everton now "interested" in January signing of £8m+ attacker

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Everton are interested in signing a 26-year-old attacker with an £8.4m release clause, with a January move mooted.

Latest Everton transfer rumours

It looks as though The Friedkin Group are aiming to make their presence felt from the off at Goodison Park, with the prospective owners eyeing three important additions in the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that they want Everton to sign a new full-back, winger and striker, seeing all three positions as priority areas and wanting more depth on show throughout the squad, as Sean Dyche looks to once again steer his side up the Premier League table.

Dan Friedkin at AS Roma.

There is also believed to be an agreement in place between the Blues and Dele Alli, in terms of the 28-year-old only getting paid on a contract when he is fit enough to play in the first team on a regular basis.

In terms of potential outgoings, underwhelming Everton striker Beto has been linked with a move to Roma, and the fact that The Friedkin Group also own the Serie A club means that it could make it an easier piece of business to get over the line, should their interest be genuine.

Everton eyeing January move for attacker

According to Plettenberg on X, Everton are keen on signing Red Star Belgrade attacker Silas in the January window, with the 26-year-old currently on loan there from VfB Stuttgart:

Silas could be a really shrewd signing by Everton if they can strike a deal, with his numbers in a Stuttgart shirt highlighting the level of end product he could bring to Dyche’s team.

The winger has scored 35 goals and chipped in with 21 assists in 132 appearances for the Bundesliga side, showing that he possesses both creativity and a goalscoring knack in the final third. He is also a 16-cap international for Congo, scoring once for his country to date, and he has netted twice in his first five appearances on loan at Red Star.

It looks as though Stuttgart are willing to cut that loan spell short, however, allowing Everton to potentially swoop in January, and the fact that Silas’ release clause is as little as £8.4m makes him a cheap option well worth taking a risk on.

Everton have found an underrated gem who's proving to be better than Gordon

The attacking ace can thrive as both a right-sided player and a centre forward, giving Dyche more versatility in his attack, and he could prove to be an upgrade on Beto if he leaves in January, making this one to watch.

Hannah Jones five-for eliminates T20 champions South East Stars

Command performance from spinners capitalises on Threlkeld’s 70 not out

It soon proved too much for Alice Capsey, who skied a catch to cover. At the other end, Jones had Grace Gibbs caught, before pinning Kirstie White lbw, but it was Hartley who claimed the crucial wicket of Moore, the ball turning away from the all-rounder who could only poke it into the hands of point.Phoebe Franklin and Kira Chathli hit some late defiant blows, but Jones continued to pick them off and they came up well short.Earlier, Threlkeld stood tall while all else fell around after Thunder won the toss and opted to bat.Coming in at No 3 after the run-out of Seren Smale, the 22-year-old produced the only innings of substance all day, successive fours in one over from Moore two of five in a 50 which came up in 71 balls. While she prospered others came and went, Gregory’s delightful mix of flight and spin accounting for Natalie Brown and Laura Marshall as the visitors slumped from 84 for 2 to 90 for 5.Threlkeld pushed on to 70 not out, but only Liberty Heap who made 19 and Alice Dyson 13 could stay with her for long as Thunder were bowled out with three of their 50 overs left unused.

Inter Milan wages: Who is the best paid player at the Nerazzurri and everything you need to know about Inter's salary bill

How much do the Inter players earn annually and who receives the most into their account?

Life has been fantastic for those at Inter Milan in recent seasons. The Nerazzurri have firmly reestablished themselves as one of the top teams in European football.

They reached the Champions League final in 2023, narrowly losing 1-0 to Manchester City. Following that, they secured the Scudetto in the 2023-24 season and are once again among the favourites to defend their Serie A title this year.

After years of underperformance and trophyless seasons, Inter have reclaimed their spot as the face of Italian football. The reigning Serie A champions boast a squad filled with world-class talent, including Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, Hakan Calhanoglu, and more.

With such stars on their roster, it’s no surprise that Inter have the highest payroll in Serie A. Along with Juventus, they are the only clubs in the league with an annual payroll exceeding €100 million.

So, who is the highest earner at Inter this season? And who is on the opposite end of the spectrum?

GOAL delved into the numbers from Capology and found out!

Yann Sommer arrived at Inter in 2023 and instantly became the highest-earning goalkeeper at the club following the departure of Andre Onana to Manchester United. However, he's not too far ahead in terms of his annual package compared to Spain's Josep Martinez.

Romanian goalie Ionut Radu is the third-highest earning keeper at the club, while 31-year-old Raffaele Di Gennaro, who is an academy graduate, earns the least among them all.

Was there ever any question about this one? Indeed, Alessandro Bastoni is the undisputed highest-earning defender at Inter, and the only one to earn an eight-figure salary annually.

Following the Italian centre-back, Federico Dimarco and Stefan de Vrij both earn over €7 million per season. Interestingly, Benjamin Pavard earns more than Denzel Dumfries.

Veterans Matteo Darmian and Francesco Acerbi, both over 35 years of age, are understandably towards the bottom of the salary list, reflecting their more modest earnings at this stage of their careers.

21-year-old Argentine centre-back is the lowest-paid defender at Inter Milan.

While both Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu could be considered deserving of the title of highest-earning midfielder, it’s the former who tops the list. However, there’s only a slight difference in their wages.

In third spot is former Napoli man Piotr Zielinski, who earns over €8 million per season, ahead of the likes of Davide Frattesi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Kristjan Asllani and Tajon Buchanan, who are not regulars in the squad, earn the lowest wages among all midfielders at Inter.

This one's a no-brainer. Lautaro Martinez has been Inter's standout player for the past five years and is undoubtedly deserving of his status as not only the highest-paid forward but also the highest-paid player in the entire squad.

His strike partner Marcus Thuram is second on this list, although many might believe that he should be earning at least eight figures annually. Currently, he doesn't earn even half as much as Martinez does.

30-year-old striker Joaquin Correa is the third-highest earning attacker, ahead of prolific Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi. The latter, however, is yet to score for Inter in the Serie A.

Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic is the lowest-paid forward.

James Pattinson on international retirement: 'There comes a point where you can't push anymore'

Earlier this year the fast bowler had been planning for the Ashes but lockdown and injuries changed it all

Andrew McGlashan04-Nov-2021James Pattinson has revealed that Pat Cummins tried to talk him out of international retirement but he knew the point had been reached where he couldn’t push his body any further to play Test cricket again.Pattinson caught the game by surprise last month when he called time on his Australia career just weeks before he was expected to be part of the Ashes squad. That was his plan, too, earlier this year until another Covid-19 lockdown and pre-season injuries took their toll. He said it got to the point some days that when he tried to go flat out at training he would barely be able to move or pick up his kit the next day.”The amount of work I have to put into my body to get ready to bowl at 100% for 40 overs is a lot of hard work and it started to wear thin a little bit,” he said. “I’d had a really clear plan to get as fit as I possibly could and do a lot of things to give the Ashes a crack and wasn’t able to that.”I didn’t really want to go into something as big as that with doubts, so made the decision and in a little way it’s a relief because I’ve only ever known trying to play cricket for Australia since I was 20. There were times when I was getting pretty emotional with how sore I was but since I’ve backed it off my body is feeling pretty good. I will relax be a bit, not bust myself to play cricket.”While Pattinson said he did not rush into the retirement call and had been considering it for “some time” an indication of how things changed over a few months was evident when he said he had been part of discussions with the Australia set-up about how the fast bowlers could be managed through the Ashes. His fellow fast bowlers were certainly hoping to have him around.Related

Pucovski set to miss start of Ashes as return delayed

“I’m pretty close with Pat Cummins, probably one of my closest mates in the team, and I rang him before I did it and he said ‘is there any way I can convince you to stay?’,” Pattinson said. “I said, ‘to be honest I’ve made the decision and I’m relieved’, then he was just supportive of it and everyone else was as well. It’s nice people want you around, but it’s a decision I made with my family. It’s nice to feel like you’ll be missed.”Pattinson finishes with 21 Tests to his name. He would dearly have liked to have had more, but leaves the top level content with his performances.”You can say I should probably have played more Tests but I’m thankful to just have the opportunity to represent my country and I’d like to think every time I went out that I gave everything,” he said. “I’ve broken my back about seven times to try and play for Australia so that’s the toll it takes and there comes a point where you try and push and you can’t push anymore. I probably wouldn’t change a thing, it’s been an amazing journey and now I can move on to the next stage and enjoy that as well.”James Pattinson returned to Test cricket in 2019•Getty ImagesWhile he has few regrets, Pattinson conceded the amount of Test bowling he did as a youngster – making his debut after nine first-class matches – probably compounded his injuries and he believes lessons have been learnt particularly with how Cummins has been handled. He twice bowled more than 50 overs in a match during his career and both came in Tests – against South Africa at Brisbane in 2012 and England at Trent Bridge in 2013 – subsequently breaking down shortly. In 2017 he underwent major back surgery and was able to return for the 2019 Ashes.”I was put in the position where I was probably a little ahead of my body, being thrown into the Test arena and doing well. Went from not playing to being the lead bowler in four or five Tests. That was the hardest thing, obviously my body wasn’t ready that. It has probably contributed to my back being the way it is.”Cummins made his Test debut at the age of 18 a couple of weeks before Pattinson but did not play the format again for six years. “They’ve changed the way they manage players a bit now,” Pattinson said. “The way they’ve handled Pat Cummins is probably the blueprint for how you handle your bowlers. What they did for him is fantastic.”If Pattinson’s body can withstand the workloads in domestic cricket at the lesser intensity than the international game, he won’t be short of playing opportunities. He returns to the field on Friday against New South Wales and then hopes to play a full BBL season for Melbourne Renegades. He will then join Nottinghamshire as an overseas player – although he has a British passport – before returning to Australia for the 2022-23 season. There is, however, one thing he is adamant won’t be happening. “I won’t be playing for England, that’s for sure.”

Newcastle games Callum Wilson will now miss after latest injury setback

Without a goal from open play in four games in all competitions and without a Premier League win in over a month, to say that Newcastle United’s latest injury blow is one they could have done without would be a major understatement.

Newcastle injury news

Starting the season without both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle already found themselves at a disadvantage before injuries to the likes of Alexander Isak only added to their woes. The Magpies are facing the consequences for failing to reinforce Eddie Howe’s side throughout the summer transfer window, leading to an inevitable struggle for form.

Admittedly, it didn’t seem as though their frontline was the issue, but just eight games in and that has so far been the case. Isak, although his short spell on the sidelines must be taken into account, has managed just one goal in six Premier League games in an incredibly disappointing record for a player of his quality.

The Swede was the star of the show last season, but has struggled to find his form whilst his strike partner is yet to even make a Premier League appearance in the current campaign in a run that is only set to continue.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Callum Wilson has suffered an injury setback and is now set to miss Newcastle’s next three games having already been missing for the previous ten.

It did look as though Wilson was set to make his return sooner rather than later before another injury blow struck to leave the Magpies hoping to see Isak avoid yet another spell on the sidelines himself.

Into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, this current spell on the sidelines almost sums up Wilson’s time in the Premier League as a whole. One of the more clinical strikers in English football, the former Bournemouth man has consistently struggled with injuries.

Games that "brilliant" Wilson will now miss

After yet another injury blow, Wilson will miss the next three Newcastle games at a time in which they could do with his clinical nature in front of goal more than ever. The Englishman’s contract may be coming to an end next summer, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a role to play in the current campaign. With Isak out of form, Wilson must emerge from injury to enjoy one last dance at St James’ Park.

Casemiro's stint at United has failed to live up to the billing that it had promised after he joined the 20-time Premier League champions from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022. This season, the Brazilian has only played eight times under Ruben Amorim and has been on the bench for United's last five Premier League clashes.

United and Casemiro had been working on a potential departure in January amid interest from Besiktas, Al-Nassr and Roma. However, the Brazilian ended up staying at Old Trafford. Journalist Jorge Nicola and Bolvaip have now reported that Flamengo are considering signing the 32-year-old on a loan deal.

Despite the winter transfer window having closed in England on February 3, the window will continue in Brazil until February 28. The Red Devils are said to be on board with the deal to send Casemiro to Brazil. However, Flamengo are still thinking about whether they want to sign the five-time Champions League winner as his wages could prove to be 'risky' to their finances, despite United being willing to take on part of his salary during the loan.

Taylor contributed with both bat and ball during West Indies’ win last week, taking the crucial wicket of Eimear Richardson on her way to finishing with 2 for 15, before scoring an unbeaten 54-ball 41 to steer a chase of 160. That performance took her to 676 ranking points in the batting list, and to 319 points in the allrounder table, behind only Marizanne Kapp (384), Natalie Sciver (372) and Ellyse Perry (365).In that same game, Matthews chipped in with figures of 10-3-20-2, removing Ireland captain Laura Delany and Orla Prendergast in a single over. Spurs have a star in the making out on loan who's outscoring Kulusevski

Despite a few hiccups, Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a relatively successful start to the season.

Ange Postecoglou’s men are playing some of the most exciting football in the country, are undefeated in the cup competitions and are just two points off of Arsenal in the Premier League.

Moreover, the Australian’s star players are really starting to step up, with Brennan Johnson continuing his fine form, Dominic Solanke bagging a brace on the weekend, and Dejan Kulusevski pulling the strings in midfield.

In fact, due to his incredible performances in his new position, the Swedish international has a claim to be the club’s most important player, so it’s encouraging to know that one of the Lilywhites’ up-and-coming stars is outscoring him out on loan.

Kulusevski's form this season

It’s been an interesting season for Kulusevski so far, as his form has mirrored that of the club’s in the sense that early on, he was struggling to really assert himself in games.

For example, in his first five league appearances, he was only able to produce a single assist, but in the five since, he’s scored twice and provided another assist, producing three more in the cups to take his total to five.

Moreover, as the team have found their footing, the former Juventus ace has become increasingly important in his new central role, as demonstrated by his utterly sensational performance against Manchester United in September.

In his 96 minutes of action that game, the “world-class” dynamo, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, scored and became the first visiting player since the 03/04 season to create nine chances at Old Trafford, per OptaJoe.

In all, it’s been a fantastic start to the campaign for Kulusevski this year, and should he maintain his form until May, he could be an outside shout for the Player of the Year. So, the fact he’s being outscored by one of the club’s promising loanees can only be an encouraging sign for the future of Postecoglou’s attack.

Spurs' loan star

Now, while there are a number of Tottenham’s youngsters out on loan this season, the one we are talking about is centre-forward Dane Scarlett.

The 20-year-old poacher joined newly promoted Championship outfit Oxford United for the season back in August, and while he had a slow start to life at the Kassam Stadium that led some to fear his move would mirror his failed loan to Ipswich Town last season, he has since found some form.

In fact, in his last four appearances for the Yellows, the Hillingdon-born marksman, whom talent scout Jacek Kulig described as being “born to score goals”, has found the back of the net on three occasions, beating Kulusevski’s tally and jumping up to joint-second on the Championship side’s top scorers list.

Moreover, the “outrageous” talent, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, has been in fine form for England’s U20 team, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in just 20 appearances, which is almost as impressive as his form for the U19s, where he scored 12 goals and provided one assist in 14 games.

This unreal form probably hasn’t come as much of a surprise to the youth coaches at Spurs, as in 38 appearances for the Lilywhites’ various junior sides, the 5 foot 11 gem scored 27 goals and provided five assists, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.18 games.

Ultimately, scoring goals in the Championship is obviously easier than scoring in the Premier League. However, the fact that Scarlett has found the back of the net more than Kulusevski is still impressive, and when combined with his record at the youth level, it looks like Spurs could have a seriously talented forward on their hands.

Cameron Bancroft hits century in Western Australia's huge total

Cameron Green made a brisk half-century and Ashton Turner slammed 71 off 41 balls
